Are Used HDD's Safe?

I want to buy a used Hard Drive but I'm afraid there will be data left on it. if there is, is there any way I can restore all the space or will there be some unformattable space?

 

P.s: Are there any other dangers in used storage?

It's better to never buy used storage because you have no idea what's been on it and you also don't know if it's lifespan will be reduced from any kind of previous treatment.

I use a few used drives I've gotten from clients, but only for non-critical storage like Steam games I can easily redownload. The issue of remnants of previous files is still a concern though.

Just dont, Im always using used parts but never storage. You never know what could have been on the drive or how long you have until it dies. My rule is that if your going to buy used components do it for everything but the Storage.

I wouldn't recommend buying used hard drives, you never know if there could still be anything on them from when the previous owner used it.

If the price is great, yes. You can use them for non-critical data or as a cheap 2nd backup drive that sees use once or twice a month. Just ask for SMART data before purchasing and following up with your own SMART tool to find the exact same values. If they aren't the same values, you've been given false information [and should just return the drive if it's worse for wear].
