Should I get a 1070 or a 1080?

Hi guys, I'm a gamer who plays overwatch xcom 2 and will probably play starwars battlefront 2 EA and south park fractured but whole. 

I streamed in the past and want to pick that up sometime (I probably won't :3). I have a 144 hz monitor at 1080p and would like to make use of it.

 

Well should I get a 1070 or a 1080?

Are you going to be using more than one display?  Do you stream or make YouTube videos?

Stream and I use 2 displays both are 1080p one is 144 hz the other one is 60 hz

Well...if you live in the US, I've seen prices of a 1070 as high as 500USD...which is similar pricing to a 1080.

So if you see the prices around 500USD, might as well get a 1080 instead.

Why will it be ROG Strix? Is it for a particular colour scheme?

 

a GTX 1070 at 1080p won't even reach 100fps, ultra settings on triple-A titles, so it is not worth the 144Hz monitor, so yes, go for the GTX 1080.

If they are both running at 1080p, and you aren't planning to run anything at 4K resolution, you might as well save yourself a bit of money and get a 1070. 

Depending on where you are the price might not be that much different between 1070 and 1080.  In Canada, where I am there's a big enough difference that I decided to go with 1070 myself.

If its only an extra 60 euro, the 1080 is a no brainer. + it'll meet you needs a little longer than the 1070 would.

IMO, 1080 would be a better buy. The pricing is way to close to make the 1070 a value/worthwhile buy.

Exactly as you said colour scheme and I'm used to the gpu tweak with my current 960.

Is this USD?  CAD?  Euro?

Depending on what it is, it doesn't seem like that much more to get the 1080 actually.

Euro and the 1070 is oc the 1080 isn't.

I would say that it's a better tradeoff for the 1080 in your case.

The real question is, what are you doing with it and can you really afford the 1080. I myself own a 1070, its absolutely worth buying if you want to play any games at 1080p. You don't need 144 fps in AAA titles like the Witcher 3 anyways; 60 is enough and it will handle that. Since you have a high refresh monitor I assume you play a competitive game. If you have to lower the settings a little bit so be it, but it can play most esports at 144fps. If the main monitor has G-sync of Adaptive sync you should try to match for that. the RX580 is basically equal to the 1070. Its really up to you. I will say, I got my 1070 when the 1080 was still much more expensive and now that its about 100 dollars differance its probably worth getting the 1080. 480ish for a 580 or 1070, 580ish for a 1080 although there are 1080s that are cheaper.

I was reading though and saw you said you stream, once again the 1070 is capable of doing that but I just saw a 1080 on newegg for 520. Another really important thing to keep in mind when buying highend gpu's to to make 100% sure you get one that you can plug in and that will fit in your case. And make sure you wont overwhelm your power supply.

• Make sure you have the power connectors and if not get a molex adapter
• Make sure your power supply is a high enough wattage, around 500 is good 650 is defiantly fine even with a high end cpu.

Both cards fit in my phanteks p400s tempered glass edition

I have the powerconnectors for both with my hx750i

And nvidia sais I need like 500 watt in the whole system mine has 750
