How do I set a time limit on iPhone

So I'm giving my old iPhone 5 to my son and he has an internet addiction and I want to give him the phone permanently and there should be a one hour time limit on safari use. How do I do that?

You might be able to set time limits on your access point on a device basis.

If it's still running iOS 9, you can jailbreak it and there should be a utility to lock down the device with a time limit.

Is there an easier way?

If you have a modern net gear wireless router you could download netgear genie on your iPhone then you can see who is on your wifi and stop wifi to your sons phone if you want but it doesn't shut off wifi to other people only your sons phone

Not that I know of. Apple generally doesn't give you the advanced access you'd need to lock down the device like this. You can disable Safari and such with Restrictions, but it's all or nothing, no option for a time limit.

You could just let him have the phone, but disable Safari, and then he has to use a computer when he wants to look something up. One of my coworkers just has a Mac Mini in his living room, and if his kids want to look something up, they do it out in the lounge on the big TV.

I get it so if they try to look up something BAD........ they can see it and stop them, brilliant

The thing is, I want him to have a phone for safety as well as to have a little fun but not use the internet too much. He doesn't look up bad things he just uses YouTube like CRAZY and needs a time limit.

Yup. You can also get a Covenant Eyes account (have to pay for it though), and it watches your browsing history and reports anything questionable to your 'accountability partner'. I've got the browser in my phone, and Safari disabled, since I got into some not-so-nice browsing habits. It defo helps.

Hmmmm.... Just block YouTube from restrictions, then he can watch his favorite videos on a PC during an allotted time.

 

EDIT: Though that'd be a pain if he wants to show his friends something.
