Will a laptop with a 1050ti be able to run some VR games?

RADEON_GUY

So I've ordered a PC specialist with the following specs:

i5 7300HQ

8gb RAM

GTX 1050ti 4gb

1tb HDD

Total: £853

The other option is buying a second hand laptop, which has a 980m in it. They are very similar in price.

I'm buying the laptop because I travel quite a lot, especially during summer and christmas. I've also been looking into getting something that'd run VR, so I can finally use my Oculus in my living room without moving around my PC, so getting a laptop that's able to run VR games as well would be hitting 2 birds with 1 stone for me. So my question is, should I stick to the 1050ti laptop or swap it for the 980m

That's not a problem. It has 1 type c and 2 usb 3.0 ports. It also has an HDMI port.

980m won't work for VR, the 1050 ti should okay for oculus but you'd really want something stronger. Remember VR games needs to run at 90fps

...no, 1050ti won't run VR well, it will depend on what games OP will be playing, i suggest at least a gtx 1060.

Well, I mainly play games like Roborecall, Modbox, and Onward from time to time.

yup, it will struggle, short answer don't, it won't be a good experience, if you wanted VR, you should have bought a VR-capable laptop with a gtx 1060.

"fine" won't prevent motion sickness, 1050ti is decent but not ideal for running VR.

I didn't buy it for vr specifically. I bought it to play games like HOI4, CS, chivalry, some gta 5 on medium-high settings. It's just that I was wondering if it'll be able to play some vr games. If it doesn't, that's not that big of a disadvantage. A laptop with a 1060ti costs like £1300, by the way. Mine has a 1050ti and costs £853. The £450 difference isn't really justified in my book.

980m is faster, but VR will still be a challenge.

VR is not exactly made for "budget" laptops, a 980m should give you a decent experience, try to get a laptop with i7, that should help with better minimums.
