Quote from your own link

"The leaked user manual — dated 04 June 2015 — details a kernel module for Linux 2.6 that allows CIA operatives to divert traffic from a Linux machine to a chosen destination.

Shell access and root privileges are needed to install OutlawCountry, meaning CIA operatives must compromise machines via other means before deploying this malware strain."

good luck with that :D

1) kernel version 2.6 who is still using kernel version so old?

2) Shell access and root privileges are needed LOL. I will Also invite them to my home and help them to install that tool on my computer :D

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Nevermind. Its only banning it for use by the DOD, not the average citizen... Clickbait.

btw, wasn't Kaspersky one of the first to detect Stuxnet (US developed worm that's hunting down anything that remotely resembles turbines used for uranium enrichment)?

in other news Russia has been working for years on their own microprocessors capable of running x86 to declare independence from the likes of Intel and AMD

I will continue to use Kaspersky until someone somewhere proves they're doing shady shit

been using F-Secure for a few years (get paid sub with my ISP), works fine.

Avira/Avast/McAffee/Norton/Norman are all cancer though.

Huh, did not know that another antivirus software was allowed on computer systems in DoD areas.

DoD is pretty darn strict with military computer systems, so these must be outside or contractors' systems.  Actually only allowed certain software to be installed on military systems, and even certain browsers are only allowed if the person and their supervisor can give a valid reason and the paperwork.  (Military loves its paperwork)

Like no joke, if someone caught with Firefox or Chrome without permission....wooo...someone going to get a ear full.

Just wait for this to be the national anthem.

While funny, I'd be way less worried about the Russians and Chinese if I was american, your country has so so much wrong internally and with its government and that's not even mentioning the king crackpot Sir Trumpenkins, but than again the whole world is in a horrible state at the moment. We need some TAU in power, kill off the greed.

Notwithstanding the fact that the Russian anti virus outperforms a lot of the American anti virus makers.

Wtf. So much for free market and capitalism. What are they afraid of? If they don't trust kaspersky all they need to do is not install it on their machines.

*tin foil hat on*

This kind of smells like someone is taking bribes from a vindictive Microsoft following the kaspersky-v-ms lawsuit.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Oh good, now only Microsoft, Apple, Google, and a host of other players whose interests are not necessarily bent toward your privacy have all your information. Good for you!

Kaspersky worked beautifully for me for a good half-decade, had one issue with it once upon a time where it kind of corrupted and treated Windows files as viruses, but otherwise, good but not as good as ESET Nod32 with Malwarebytes.

>treats windows files as viruses

i wouldn't say that was good or "other wise good" any software that malfunctions or by design where it disturbs work flow is bad.

AV isn't about a first line of defense, it's about another layer of security.  Anyone who uses AV as their only (or even primary) line of defense is an amateur.  Anyone who thinks they don't need an AV at all, is - no offense - a fool.
