Looking for a new monitor (gamer)

Hi everyone,

 

Since my battlestation is still sporting an old 19in viewsonic that dates back to the dark ages of me raiding Molten Core in wow vanilla... I think it's about time I upgrade the darn thing.

 

I am running a maybe arguably very old I7 860, with an R290x. So it's nothing fancy, but apparently games are still running quite well, at least in 1440x900.

 

So what am I looking for, well a monitor that's reactive, since I am very much into online gaming and FPS. I am heavily tempted by a freesync monitor, but I am not 100% sure I want to commit to one brand only (I'll eventually change that computer at some point given how old the motherboard / cpu are).

 

I am also on a fairly tight budget, I would like to stick to the 300 euros mark (buying in France), possibly lower if it's an option of course.

 

Size wise, I think 24in should do the trick, now I have nothing against a bigger screen, but resolution would be higher than 1080p and I don't think my hardware would keep up with that
