Micron Technology today announced that it is discontinuing its Lexar® retail removable media storage business. The decision was made as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and channels.

 

The Lexar portfolio includes memory cards, USB flash drives, readers, and storage drives for retail and OEM customers.

 

Micron is exploring opportunities to sell all or part of the Lexar business.

 

The company will continue to provide support to existing customers through this transition period. Customers should contact their Lexar sales representative to discuss specific requirements.

 

liked Lexar products a lot

still have one of their own 2GB USB thumb drive, it's so old that it holds together with SuperGlue - but still works and still fast enough that allows me to deploy linux distros

Lexar started as the memory division of Cirrus Logic, later broke off it's parent company in 1996

in 2006 Micron acquired the company and merges it with it's other brand name, Micron

i have a 32GB lexar usb stick.. only ever used it because it was 32GB because everything else about it was bleh..

I guess its too hard to compete with China for pcbs and plastic parts.  Looks like chips and ICs are still a go.

They won't honour warranties? Just bought a 128GB stick still within Amazon's return window.

Huh, didn't realize anyone would confuse the two...

 

OT: Sad to see them go. They weren't the best ever USB drives, but they were generally solid quality for the price.

 

we recently bought 20x 64GB USB 3.0 drives at work and they are pretty solid little guys, with decently fast specs (often cheaper USB 3.0 flash drives will only have fast read speeds, but terrible write speeds).

Bought a 128GB USB 3.0 drive from them for 40 bucks two years ago. Man was that a steal.

If you're talking about the 633x, my (cheaper) 64GB Toshiba M302 (2016 version) will probably be able to keep up :D 

 

I mean when I connected it to my USB 3.0 card reader, it did hit 89/30MB/s soooo...sandisk isn't the only other "fast" microSD card company.

They consistently offered some of the cheapest memory available, but given my experience with their products, I think that may have been for good reason.  Good to see them go; one less checkbox to have to tick off when filtering for products.

Good. Bought several 8gb lexar flash drives at TARGET for $5 each a few years back that all ranged from 128megs-3 gigs formatted. QC is pretty bad from my experience.

i use Lexar SD Cards for most of my cameras..., this is a big disappointment.
