Can a USB type c hub be used with a usb type c phone?

I have a samsung galaxy s8 and am interested to know if I can use a usb hub made for laptops in order to incorporate a HDMI and usb's simultaneously if anyone has tried feedback would be much appreciated.

I have a Google pixel and I sometimes plug in a hub with a kb/m and a USB drive and it works just fine, I don't see why the s8 would have any problems.

Android dosen't support HDMI over USB.You need the S8 dock thing
