is this good deal? 1st computer build.

ColeB01

there is an ad on craigslist in my area for an Asus Z77 Sabertooth motherboard, and I7-3770k, and an H60 cpu cooler for $300 USD. i also found one for an AMD FX-8370 with an MSI 970 and 2x8 gb of GSkill RIpjaws DDR3 2133mhz for 190$ USD. are either of these good deals?

First things first, I hope you realize that both of these are dead end platforms? You won't have many upgrade paths down the line.

Daily Driver: Asus ROG Flow X13 - 5900HS/3050 Ti

Primary Desktop: NCase M1 - 5800X3D/RX 6950XT

Travel PC: Fractal Terra - 5800X/RTX 3060 Ti

I have too many computers. List here.

Deadend platforms will not receive any new products, hence why i said you won't be able to upgrade. If you want an enthusiast platform the current gen is X299 and (soon) threadripper. The current consumer platforms are Z170/270 and AM4

you just won't be able to get a better CPU down the line or DDR4 ram, but in my opinion that does not matter that much. A 3770k will serve you well for a while. The GPU and all other components are upgradeble just like in any other newer platform

They don't support newer tech like M.2 and NVMe, most likely, and can't upgrade to the latest CPUs and DDR4 RAM, so you'll have to buy another wholemCPU/mobo/RAM package if you want to upgrade down the line.

NVMe is absolutely possible via PCIe extensions and DDR4 is not that big of a difference if his budget is tight. If he upgrades in a couple of years, any platform will be obsolete for CPU.

Didn't know that.

Yup. He was asking why it's a dead end setup, and I was doing my best to explain that. It's still a good deal, but its not as upgradable as newer standards.

I am not too worried about upgrading it as of now as this would be my first pc and i would wait for a few years till i could but a completely new system. which one should i buy tho? Here are the links to the page. i would still need to buy a graphics card, psu, case, ssd, and monitor.

I'd get a cheap G4560, Z270 system. Go to PCPP and start building!

I'd skip the SSD for now and put the cash towards a Z-board that you can upgrade with an i5-7600K or i7-7700K later on or, if Intel sticks to their guns, releases Coffee Lake (hexa-core) with backwards compatibility with Z270 and Z170.
