paying a lot more for a small boost is not really worth it.

Depends on if that small boost will really benefit that person. When I was at Canadas Wonderland my friend wanted to play all the games. To me theyre a waste of money but to her they werent.

Depends what you're trying to do. What CPU were you planning to pair, how important is audio, what cooling will you be using, how heavily do you plan to overclock, what's you budget, what sorts of tasks are you using the system for?

To be honest most of the X299 motherboards haven't been reviewed (by good reviewers) yet, so it's hard to tell exactly. Hopefully the Asus X299 Extreme isn't as bad as the Z270 one.

Budget is lower than 500$, pairing the 6 core skylake, planning on overclocking, gaming and streaming, and i care about audio

The Strix will do you good. I'd go for that then.

People say bad things about any company. Some people said bad things about Gigabyte but I loved my old Z170X motherboard from them.

Asus too gets a lot of flack but people only give feedback the most when something goes wrong.

What case? Most "EATX" mobos are actually XL-ATX and will fit in the majority of ATX cases.

You're fine, then. You have plenty of space off to the right, and I can't think of any recent consumer motherboards that extend far enough to even interfere with the grommets.

Having had the Rampage 5 Extreme  and Edition 10, I would say wait for some reviews to come in.  The R5E was chalked full of issues and have had well over a dozen BIOS updates and it still has issues.  The Edition 10 was much better but only because they learned all the things wrong with the previous Rampage board and fixed most of them.

Personally I'm very interested in the Apex, especially if Intel decides to allow non-Intel M.2s to use IROC, tho that technically isn't available fully yet.

32Gb Dominator Platinum Special Edition Blackout 3200MHz  | Samsung 960 Pro | 2x Samsung 961 Pro (Raid 0) 256Gb M.2 SSD

Samsung 850 Pro 512Gb | WD Black 4TB | Corsair AX1200i
