Help with an assignment?

Hey guys, doing an assignment for college, one of my final ones. For part of it, I have to briefly describe the following, but I cannot do this as I don't have  server and there's no server I can use at the moment including the college one. I've never used a server, so could someone help me with this? I've just got to, in one paragraph or so, briefly describe how I would  

• Alter the storage allowed per user on the server

My problem is it doesn't say what kind of server it is, it doesn't say what OS etc. Could someone give me a brief idea of how i'd do that task so I could put it into words? Is it just kind of like a windows thing where you go to tcontrol panel, or is it a command line based thing? Can't ask my teacher, not at college at the moment.

what kind of college asks you a question like this without giving you practical experience? Its different between windows and unix. Theres no reason not to answer for both. The key here is to look at the number of marks they will award for the answer. If its 5 marks then you need to give them 5 facts so the marker can award you.
