Best Hack n' Slash games?

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

I'm a huge fan of hack n' slash-like games. Probably my favourite single player genre.

Games I've played so far:

Ninja Gaiden (1-3)

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

Devil May Cry 4

Dark Souls (2-3 - Not really hack and slash, but similar)

Games on my steam watch list:

Nioh (Will probably get a PS4 just for these)

Bloodborne (" ........ ")

The new DMC

Nier Automata

Metal Gear Rising (Issue is, I've never played any MGS games)

Anymore you would recommend?

Blades of Time was cute.

Darksiders (1-2 and the upcoming 3) are also must-play games

You might also enjoy Brutal Legend

Warframe is pretty hack n slashy but it's a mega-grind at times

I've played Darksiders before, the 2nd one briefly. Wasn't really a big fan of it though, found it a little simple.

I have played Warframe before, but only briefly. I thought it was some big online free hack n' slash game.

But yeah, I'll check out the others you mentioned.

Brutal Legend is dirt cheap (under 2 bucks with OST) and I'd play it just for the epic soundtrack (and the metric fuckload of Metal Gods that lent their voices for the game)

you may quite like warframe if you like mindlessly killing Hordes upon hordes of animes and a large amount of character and weapon choices. though as stated above it can get a bit boring after you've killed the equivalent of most major cities worth of enemies

From what I remember of it, Dynasty Warriors should fit what you want.

Na, tried them before. Dynasty Warriors + Warrios Orchi etc.

Them just seem very similar and really repetitive, I just couldn't get into the games. I have tried and had a few of them.

I like the Hack n' Slash games that generally put emphasis on the story line.

I thought Warframe was some online-only arena battle thing with swords. I did only play it for like 30mins though.

I'll have another look at it.

its PVE there's a small part of it called conclave but it's not played by many nor is it required to be played. weapon wise there's pretty much every type of melee weapon and gun available. and different characters with different sets of abilities usually based around different elements

Sounds like a 3rd-person Destiny ;P

DMC3 and Bayonetta are a must then. Both are superior to DMC4 imo.

Naturally, if you can, play DMC1 and 2 as well.

EDIT: forgot MGR: Revengeance.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
