PSU for Dell OptiPlex 980 SFF

Zuhair Ishraque

I have a dell optiplex 980 sff. I was trying to get a average good graphics card, but in order to do so, I need a better psu. This is my current psu: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4A03VU8949&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-Power+Supplies-_-9SIA4A03VU8949&gclid=CjwKEAjwvr3KBRD_i_Lz6cihrDASJADUkGCazh1unlqdksnMY7umVrlZqrAj8vaHeqjklQxPlruK8RoCpbnw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I was looking for a psu with at least 400w and one that would be compatible with my optiplex. I was wondering if there is a way that i could install the psu outside of my case, or if there were any good low-end graphics cards that i could get.

SeaSonic G if you want to go for gold efficiency

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

Mention me if you want to summon me sooner or later

Spoiler

My head on 2019 :

Note 10, S10, Samsung becomes Apple, Zen 2, 3700X, Renegade X lol

doesnt quite fit a dell sff :/

that said, if you want to go the route you're going, a dell sff is probably not a very good starting point..

Will this have to be outside my case or will it fit inside?

Wait is the form factor that should fit to your case is SFF Psu?

Read his original post. Clearly it says SFF. So any standard atx psu won't work.

I thought the SFF label is just the model naming and not related to the pc...

The SFF label means that the case is "small form factor". It's smaller than other computers.

Yeah, you are not going to find a replacement for that, It appears to be similar sized to TFX, but I don't think it is TFX. You might be able to bodge in a TFX unit, but other than that, your out of luck.
