Fanless PSU???

I see Seasonic power supply's with 520w and no fan, i would love a fanless power supply and it is cheaper than something like a corsair 1000w power supply where that has the ability to not spin the fan. Is it worth it to save some money and buy the fanless power supply? the estimated power usage on pc partpicker on my new system is 480w not including the water loop. Am i cutting it to close?

 

My rig will have a 1700, gtx 1080, and a custom water cooling loop among other less power consuming high end parts.

I would suggest a larger PSU, even if its estimated that it won't pull as many watts as the PSU is rated for. With a gtx 1080, and a AMD 1700 with all other components power consumption may rise due to heavier loads that whats expected, and a custom water cooling loop. I would look at something like 600-750W PSU's. I really doubt you'll hear the fan on the PSU if its running, it would be annoying to run into PC shutdowns or PSU over-drawing due to not having the power needed.

Typically, a solid 550/650W power supply with a passive mode (like the EVGA SuperNOVA G2/G3 or Corsair RMx) is already quiet enough and usually significantly cheaper. But sure, if you want a fanless Seasonic unit, that's fine too.

 

Your build will get nowhere near 480W in a worst case scenario.

Don't pay attention to PSU calculators, they are always wrong.

Tell people your parts and then we can check google for power consumption from systems with similar components.

I think that's way more than ever needed. Both overclocked I would guess at max you'd be seeing 400w from the main components, add in water cooling stuff and it won't even hit 500.
