3rd monitor detected but not activating

Dr Burrito

For some reason, all of a sudden my 3rd monitor has decided to not activate. I can see it in the display settings and have tried unplugging and replugging things, redownloading nvidia drivers with clean installations, tried to activate the 3rd monitor in nvidia control panel, even downloading a clean os but for the life of me cannot get it to activate. All 3 monitors are asus vg248qe's and are all connected via displayport cables into 2 gtx 980's. Any comments or solutions to this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is a few days old, but I also get this when using DisplayPort, sometimes anyway. I think it's just a bug some 980s have.

Here are the most common ways I have fixed mine:

  • Restarting the PC (hardly ever works, but sometimes it does).
  • Disconnecting the monitor from the power and waiting a minute or two.
  • Unplugging all other monitors from the PC, except for the affected one.
  • Reconnecting the DP cable.

Just a few things you can try if it ever comes back.
