Cores and Gaming

Go to solution Solved by faziten,

Depends on the game. Trend is: 6700K or 7700K are still kings of the maximum FPS on 90%+ games. (90 is not an actual statistic, is more like a sort of saying, most games are just fine with that kind of CPUs).

So from what i have known more cores is not all that helpful for gaming, but for my build especially i wouldnt put a gpu higher than a 1070 with a 7600k , maybe a 1080, but what i thought is that with like a 1080 ti or titan xp at 4k you can get bottle necked and more cores can actually help, so in those cases a  7700k would be a wiser choice,

is this how it is or is the performance gain from extra cores minimal to none ?

You could get a Ryzen CPU and save money on the Mobo as well and put that toward your more powerful GPU.

i was considering that as well, but i cant be sure more cores will give any gains and just go with the 7600k

if you replace the 1070 with a 1080 you will be getting gains no matter what.

the 1080 i wouldnt bother to change cpu choice but its a 1080ti,

actually a build for my friend, but he wants to save as much coast and go with a 7600k. and i told him to get  a 6700k instead because it would perform better

You dont need more cores for gaming, 4 cores 8 threads is fine, just get the fastest clock speed you can, that is what games like. Then if you match it with a 1080 thats even better.

If you dont need more cores for video editing, then why bother going to more cores?

I use all 12 threads while gaming. More threads wont hurt as long as they are fast enough. 3.2Ghz+ at a decent IPC with hexa or octa core is good especially with a multicore game like GTXV and a voice chat and Pandora in the background.

Don't get the 7600K , it is already bottlenecking GTX 1070s. Just look up reviews that show CPU usage. It mostly stays at 95%+. Just get a Ryzen 5 1600/X. The X version trades blows with the 7600K in newer games at a much lower Cpu usage, therefor giving you more headroom.
