Ultrawide Thread

TahoeDust

Who has them?  Who wants them?  Who loves them?  Who hates them.

What do you have?  How do you like it?

3 years ago I bought an Asus MX299Q 29" 2560x1080 60Hz IPS monitor.  It treated me well, but from the beginning I wished I could have gone 3440x1440.  A month ago I picked up a AOC AG352UCG 35" 3440x1440 100Hz VA monitor.  Totally worth the price of admission.  My Asus has moved on to a buddy who has been fully converted to the Ultrawide Master Race.

Obnoxious self serving picture..

Samsung S34E790C 34.0"
It's perfect for me - especially since I got two of them (one for my wife) for 580 CHF each on some strange sale. It "only" got 60Hz but since I don't game that much it ain't a biggy. My system couldn't handle more than 60 frames anyway. G-Sync would have been nice, but that wasn't a thing for a reasonable price by the time I bought it.

From the pics, I would say that it looks really great.  But as someone once told me, a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind.  Wish my desk looked that good.

you just called my wife a "sick mind" - will let her know - was nice knowing you, sad you had to die that young...

I didn't take the pics myself, I asked her to make a pic when I was at work to show it to a colleague some time back. That's what she sent me then. She even matched the backlight colors to the monitors current colors on each pic.

but notice how the mouse pad overlaps the keyboard pat? that would never happen to me :-) Also the headphone over the mic arm, not going to happen, but it "had to look nice".... the things we do for lunch ...

Yeah, it's ultrawide on the cheap. I am saving up for something better with G-Sync but damn, those screens aren't cheap...

They're totally worth it man.  I'm not going to lie...3440x1440 @ 100+Hz with G-sync is next level shit.

some generic cheap amazon shit - I think these are the ones:

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01JA8YZ30/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

most of the time they are just set to a yellow-ish color like in the first pic. I just wanted to have them turn off and on with the monitor which they do for qol reasons.

yep for sure.

3440x1440 is a resolution that can be driven by single high end cards 1070 and above reasonably well. keeping 100 frames to benefit from the 100 Hz will most likely be 1080 territory with most games (assuming high/ultra in both cases).

but then again the price ffs...

900€ for a monitor ain't no joke. and decent ones for even more. ouch.

the ~550€ I payed december '15 would is still be a steal today for the monitor i got.

The move to 3440x1440 pushed me from a 980 ti to my 1080 ti in search of 100fps.  I found them more or less.

The AOC, Acer Z35P, and HP Omen X 35 all use the exact same panel.

My current setup. Monitor is LG something or other... can't remember the number. 3440x1440 60Hz IPS around 2 years old now. Bought originally to enhance my Elite Dangerous gaming experience, and the extra-wide format really helps in there. I've stopped playing that and it doesn't directly benefit my current FFXIV timesink, other than allowing me to play windowed with something else (video) going on the side.

I keep thinking about reverting back to a dual 16:9 setup with newer toys on it, like high refresh, G-sync, and even HDR.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

3440x1440 is exactly what I'm aiming for. I recently bought a GTX 1080 and now I would like to upgrade my screen to something worthy to that GPU.

Thing is, that GPU burned my budget for PC hardware pretty much to the ground. So yeah, I guess I'll have save up for while now.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My apologies, in a round-about way I think I was just trying to say that I was extremely jealous.  My desk is so cluttered I have a hard enough time just trying to find myself much less my earphones.  Thank goodness I have my fidget spinner to pass the time while looking.

I found 34 ultrawide - to wide for what I do, which is basically a pretty hardcore FPS team Game (Squad).

On my travels and searches I found one of these (16:9, 32inch, acceptable input lag, good response time, fantastic colours, 75hz, very good build quality):
https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/PB328Q/

Gotta say, I am so impressed with it. Squad can't deliver over 75fps stable in 1440p with any PC currently so I am very happy with this monitor and it's a very decent price for what you get.

Quick shot of my setup. I love my ultrawide but I recently picked up my first 144hz G-Sync monitor and I'm in love. After some calibration, the colors really pop which makes it the best TN panel I've ever had. I use it for all my gaming now instead of my ultrawide. Eventually I will pony up the money to purchase a 34" ultrawide high refresh rate monitor but for the time being, this is my perfect setup.
