That's strange. I didn't know they offered the n standard at a rate lower than it was capable of reaching.

Make sure you get one that reaches 450 mbps, that one in particular according to the details only reaches 300 mbps

Hello,

So, since my motherboard (h170 gaming M3) doesn't have any wifi I thought I could just buy the cheapest one but it's I'm a little bit confused with the Mbps, etc.

My question is: Is something like the TP Link TL-WN823N (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gWg323/tp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn823n) fine, or I should spend a little bit more (I don't mind) and get something relatively better?

Thanks!

#1 - don't do USB 2.0 unless you don't have USB 3.0.   Even then, they're cheap enough and most are backwards compatible with 2.0, so get a USB 3.0 adapter.  2.0 doesn't support enough bandwidth to allow you to get full wireless speeds when using Wireless-AC.  USB 2.0 supposedly transfers data at 480mbps (60MBps). USB 3.0 runs about 5gbps (640MBps).

#2 - look to adapters that have Wireless-AC.  N would be okay, but the price difference is most likely negligible, and AC is fully backwards compatible.  So having an older router won't be a problem.

At the low end, look for AC600 dual band adapters, or better.  Enjoy.

@Arjan W @Doramius Thanks. Well, then which one would you recommend? https://www.pcdiga.com/wireless-wi-fi

My network speed is not the best, so having a "lower end" adapter which can deliver at least 10 Mbps would be great I guess? Idk I'm new into this stuff.

When your PC connects to your modem/router/access point, it uses a WiFi standard. The standards that are most common are the ones that I have mentioned above. You'll need to find out what your wireless access point uses. It will most likely be the n or AC standard.

a being the lowest, and AD being the best on the scale.

You can find out by looking into your wireless access point's settings.

That's assuming that they have the AC standard and capability though.

Why are you recommending AC when you do not know if their access point even supports the AC standard?

As stated "and AC is fully backwards compatible."

The IEEE 802.11 standard.  You might want to do a little network reading: www.ieee802.org/11

In order to use AC, both ends must support it.

I've never heard of a mobile router before. Have you tried looking in the wireless connection settings?
