What's with the hate on ONE PLUS 5?

Yo! i really don't get the hate on one plus 5. I get it that it is somewhat a copy of iphone 7, but still.
Linus, MKBHD both said its a really good budget phone with ofcourse some downsides, which can be repaired through possible software upgrade. (image stabilization, camera app and others)
 

As far as i get it from all reviewers, The phone is actually really good budget phone with amazing specs.

I live in finland. S8 costs 800-900 euros
so the obvious choice is the one plus 500euro

To me at least it's just getting way too expensive.

 

While it's still good value, in the us at least for $170 more you could buy a true flagship like the htc u11 or iPhone 7, both of which have better camera, better screen, etc.

 

The prices of OnePlus phones have been steadily increasing over the years which is what is bothering me.

People always hate new stuff if it doesn't do everything they want it to do. Just like people complained about the iPhone 7 being sensible and keeping the great design of the 6/6s and just tweaking the internals.

Recent cheating, copying apple design, no OIS(op3 has it), quite a big price tag and it was hyped up when OP5 doesn't look anything to write books about. There's probably more things as well.

On a serious note, I feel like Samsung phones get way too much attention and is starting to feel like the iPhone of the Android market.

Apparently the word for the number 4 in some Asian languages is superstitious so they skipped it. 

 

Anyway, I was considering the one+ even though I have a new G6. Up until I saw the release. It's a blatant rip off of the iPhone. People claim all phones copy designs but this one is actually identical. It has large bezels, a front button, no water proofing.... No thanks.

The only factor not making me consider the op5 is warranty coverage and importing it will further increase the price

OnePlus is a Chinese company. 4 is associated with death in Chinese culture.

 

Same reason why most of the West doesn't like using 13

Because to most people, their phone pretty much replaced their computer.

 

Plus the cost of the phone get spread out over a two year contract. To a lot of people, that looks cheaper than paying $400-$500 up front.

i asked about the warranty even without buying the extra warranty thing (have no idea what that even is).

In europe, they said the warranty is 2 years prior to purchase

I think that creating hype is what these companies do, as far as marketing. 

 

Xiaomi had been doing this for years. And so as any other big chinese phone manufacturing company. 

 

I believed I read somewhere online and there was a saying that when it comes to "hype creating" apple's marketing team came up with the idea of "controlled leak". 

 

And I think in the end it back fired at apple pretty hard. (Remember that engineer left his iphone4 at the bar?) I might be wrong, but I think it is staged, for creating hype.

 

 

I think the real reason people are outrageous is that the price of the 1 plus 5's price is getting closer and closer to those tier one phones. (namely samsung and apple) 

 

And what people failed to realise is that this (a.k.a the incremental price jump) is carefully designed and implemented through out the years. Which means they were gonna do this from the start. 

 

That's what google did with "their" nexus line up. They give you a smooth software experience, then slowly but surely to jack up the price. 

 

Why? Because high end smartphone has better margin. And lower end smartphones are reallllyyyyy hard to profit. (from selling hardware alone) 

 

Those companies are trying to compete with apple and samsung from the beginning. They just started to get entry to the high end market.

It looks like a blatant ripoff of the iphone 7 plus.  A cheap knockff, only not so cheap.
