Intel i9-7980XE listed for 2370€ / 2650$ (coming 30.06.2017?)

Hey guys!

To be honest I'm not quite sure whether this is hot News Material or not, but I thought why not give it a shot.

Alright, a pretty reputable hardware seller in germany suddenly lists the upcomming flagship cpu as "bestellt" ("purchased" from the seller) along with all the other cpus that are due to be released along with their prices.

 

Mindfactory has been pretty trustworthy about this stuff in the past.

However, clockspeeds are not listed yet, so no new info there.

Oddly, they claim that the chips arrive until 30.06.2017.

That's a lot more than the price they listed...

 

Granted, $1999 was the price if you bought a thousand but still...

 

Though Europe prices usually are more than US, so that might explain some of it.

 either 30.06.2017 is wrong or intel is going to rush this one out even faster, it was last stated that only the 12c will be out in August and the 14+ ones will come in sep-oct according to intel at the x299 event. if this is true they really must be scared of threadripper lunching late july early august.

Well, i9-7960X lists 3.0 Ghz. That would make sense for the base clock.  And it likely puts the 7980XE at around 2.8 Ghz.  We'll see if it holds.

 

It might also be the pre-orders open then, rather than a launch.

 

Also, the top chip translate to ~$2150 USD after conversion. (You need to pull the VAT out before conversion.) Which is around $150 above the tray price, which makes some sense.

And the entries look legitimate because those prices are right in line with expectation from Intel's posted tray prices.

If the 7960X is at a base clock of 3.0 Ghz, we should probably expect the 7940X at 3.1-3.2 & the 7920X at 3.2-3.3 Ghz.

 

But from 12c and on, Core Latency is a huge issue we don't know about yet.  Testing fun to come!

Well, the 12c part is supposed to be out in August, and I'm pretty sure they put in the placeholders for the other parts.   From the screenshot, it looks like the 14c, 16c & 18c parts were actually already entered, and I think they more recently entered the 12c part.  They just accidentally set them as active when doing it.

I wouldn't trust the 30.06.2017 as much as the prices - those are probably launch prices (I mean, they already are pre-order prices, since you can in fact buy them), and I'm sure they will receive a 2066 shipment on 30.06.2017 (the whole lineup has the same expected day). And I'm also sure they ordered units of all models. I just don't think all models will be inside the box when they open it at the end of the month  

 

It's also somewhat freshening to see that prices (or price-per-core, if you want) has come down substantially from 2011-3 (I still remember people wondering if Zen would have any impact on Intel's prices ), and yet we still regard this chips as expensive. I mean, yes, in absolute terms we always new that was a lot of money, but for instance the 8-core CPU is €639, compared to ~€1,000 from previous generations, and still we look at it like "weeell...that's more than double the lowest 8-core Ryzen model... and 35% above the most expensive Ryzen... Let's see what Threadripper brings..."

I kind of like this market better than two years ago

Intel, dont become a Samsung/Apple here, your already drowning yourself on purpose, particularly more in european countries with huge VATs.

 

3000€ in Portugal x.x? Xeon territory is more cost effective then, at least some major company would buy a used one (current gen Xeons) over this.

Intel is very vertically integrated.  Pvioting parts for one purpose or another depending on market conditions is easy.   Bare die get out on reels and into storage.  They can be pulled out and fused to whatever product on demand.

Usually you have to add 25% VAT to US prices to get EU prices. So you'd expect them to be like 2500USD for 1k pricing. And if you then add the typical 5% margin the stores have on it, you get another 125USD on top of that to total 2625USD so the pricing seems legit.

Yeah, VAT in the EU must be included in the sticker price, otherwise it's against the laws, so all the prices you see in the EU will either have a before VAT price and after VAT price, or just the after VAT price,

Orrrrr, you know, you just don't buy it if you're not interested in it?  It's not like there isn't 6 other options on X299 for you to choose from.

 

What is wrong with you people for hating a product *just* for existing?  Do you go stand outside Toyota dealerships and yell at them for selling Corollas because they suck vs. Lexus?

Kaby Lake X is an outright ripoff, that should result in a class action lawsuit. You are buying into a platform you cannot make proper use of because Intel is selling you an overpriced poc with no proper support. That product has no right to exist. The motherboard vendors agree with me, and most youtubers do as well.

 

If you want to go with a car analogy, it's like paying full price for a corolla light, with 1 wheel, half the engines missing, and 3 seats.

Yep. If its gonna leave a bad rep, why do it? Most people will get either a 7700K or jump straight onto a 6 core CPU, why is Intel literally making an I5 (which very few will buy because of the stereotype "i7 > i5 on everything and you should never get it over an i7" and its literally the same damn thing as the 7700K, except maybe an extra 200-400Mhz boost in OC performance!?

Yeah, that is more or less I expected too. But 7900X is "only" 999 euro includes VAT here, compares to US $999. I was surprised when I saw the price.

 

So maybe, just maybe, 7980XE will be close to 2000 euro instead of 23XX euro.
