7900X Coming In Hot?!

I mean, they're not soldered, sure. Still doesn't stop i9/i7 from kicking Ryzen every which way to Sunday.

Did you read OP or watch the video at all before diving in? 4.5Ghz and 95 Degrees is far from acceptable... Saying higher clocks will be within reach if you delid? Go read the OP it says that. This thread is about the thermal issues if you don't delid or don't feel comfortable delidding a $1000 part.

 

Oh it isn't going to be any better? 16 cores won't be better than 8? May I borrow your crystal ball? The only thing that can predict is the 4-4.1Ghz ceiling because it is Ryzen. Again all of this is still irrelevant in a thread about X299 thermal issues at stock. Please try to remain on topic :)

A Porsche also beats a mini van I don't see your point? Ryzen is mainstream and X299 is HEDT. X399 competes with X299 not Ryzen.

I'll get on topic.  I ordered a 7820x.  I am hoping that it will be like OC3D's and I will be able to run it at 4.8GHz @ 1.22v and in the mid 70s.  That would be pretty incredible.  I am planning on delidding it either way, how well it performs stock will dictate how soon that is done.

I'll have my stuff Monday or Tuesday. I went from a 4790K, to a 6700K, and now to a 7820X. Can't wait to get a fresh install on windows 10 up and running. First thing I'll do is run Fire Strike benchmarks and TimeSpy with a 7820X and a 1080 Ti OC to 2063 core/12,400 memory and see the massive improvements from my 6700K! 

 

Then that weekend I'll see what my CPU is capable of and if I'll need an LN2 AIO or not. :D

I'm going from a 2700k @4.8+ MHz to the 7820x.  Unfortunately, my 1080 ti does not do 2063...more like 2025.  Lets see that Fire Strike and Timespy benchmarks with the 6700k...

Sad thing is, I had a Titan XP (the first one) that did 2126 on the core, and 12,600 memory. I decided to trade down by sending it back to save a buck for the 1080 Ti. Score about 150-200 pts lower, but saved $500 bucks. :D That thing was a beast and I definitely hit the lottery.

It's weird man.  My 1080 ti clocks less than your, but scores better.  It is odd because my first 1080 ti clocked better than my FTW3 also.  But in both cases the FTW3 scored higher at a lower clock.

Yeah, that's weird. I got ~ 29,600ish graphics with my Ti. Makes me wonder if there was other conflicts along the way I wasn't privy of. My CPU was stock during those tests, but still. :/ It's tough to tell the answer because there could be a million reasons (i.e. bloated windows/processes/drivers, etc.). Hopefully, a fresh install will have better results. :)

 

When you get your setup going, post your scores in the 3DMark thread so we can compare results. :)

Disagree. More radiator surface area more cooling. A 240mm cant cool as well as a 480mm radiator.

Considering 3x 480mm (63mm deep) RADs can passively (no fans) cool an OC'd 4930k and two 290X's yes, surface area makes a huge difference.

Not quite. 

With more rads in general the water can be kept at a lower temp overall. So the load temp over a period of time will be lower than any AIO.

The blocks they use with AIO coolers are not top tier designed blocks. They may not even be copper to save cost. 

 

AIO can be as good as a custom loop, but I don't know off the top of my head how close it is.
