1080 TI SC2 Hybrid review

Hiho,

 

My 1080TI SC2 Hybrid arrived and I muse say it's pretty good.

 

- In an ambient room temperature of 27C, the GPU stays at around 60C under fullest load when overclocked: +500Mhz to the memory 120% power target, 60Mv voltage, +100 to core clock. Fans spin at a constant speed of 1500RPM on the radiator and it is not very audible.

 

Tested with the case closed and radiator is mounted in the front of the case and hot air is dumped into the case (balanced airflow).

 

There is a slight coil whine, however it is not really noticeable when PC case is closed.

 

Overclock will obviously vary from card to card but this one manages 2075Mhz on the core but mostly stays at 2063 or 2050 in games. Memory is exactly at 6003Mhz (12006 effective).

 

Since this is the SC2 version, it has all the sensors to monitor temperatures and GPU power temps are: 74C, 74C, 74C, 75C, 71C whereas memory temperatures are: 67C, 68C, 73C.

 

I tested the the GPU with The Division at 4k ultra preset; mostly resulted in a frame rate of 70 or above depending on the location. Underground I seen over 90.

 

Valley Benchmark crashed on me while I put the memory on +500 after 10 minutes but it wasn't really a crash as I just got a message which said that program stopped working. Re-running the tests now and everything seems fine.

 

Pros:

- Very good temperatures

- Good overclocks (it can depend however)

- it's a 2 slot card, however radiator is included

- Included screws allow you to sandwich 2 fans around the radiator

- Nice poster and stickers included

- Velcro straps included which are useful if you have some fan cables around the case.

Cons:

- Expensive (Here in the UK I paid £860, although the price dropped to £830) on Amazon.

- Slight coil whine coming from the graphic card (however with close case you can't really hear it)

 

The fans which I used on the radiator are Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition fans and to measure RPM I plugged both fans to NZXT Sentry 3 touch controller so I could modify speeds of the fans myself on the go.

Will this card get more mghz than a FTW card? How is it's powerdelivery setup different compared to other cards, if at all?

I had the following cards: EVGA Founders Edition, 3x GTX 1080 TI Aorus Xtreme, and SC2 Hybrid. Hybrid is by far best. Lower temps allow it to OC higher and the core clock stays a lot more constant that with air cooled card.

 

I had the following clocks with the cards:

1st AORUS: 1987 core clock 12000Mhz memory OC to brim.

2nd AORUS 1987 core clock 12000Mhz memory OC to brim.

3rd AORUS 2038 core clock 11700Mhz memory OC to brim.

Founders EVGA: 2000 core clock 11900 memory OC to brim.

Current EVGA SC2 Hybrid: 2075 core clock 12006 memory OC to brim.

 

FTW3 might get more mhz, it's a silicon lottery and only two people who got past 2100 are: Tech Yes City with AORUS Xtreme and JayzTwoCents on YT with ASUS Poseidon when water and air cooled at the same time.

 

I am trying to cram more voltage into the card but it does nothing so I don't think it will yield better results on other cards. I tried it and I was concerned that 8+6 pin wouldn't let me OC high, but I was wrong.

 

Paying extra is worth it I'd say to get the water cooled card if the difference is about £50. It's a better long term solution, and once you buy it, you buy it so it can stay for few years. It will certainly not disappoint.

 

Sensors are definitely a nice addition if you're worried about temps of VRM etc but they stay perfectly cool as they can take up to 150C apparently and they stay at a decent 70-75C just like any other card.

That's a pretty good overclock. Most 1080 tis refuse to go above 2050 at all.

don't have the 1080ti hybrid but i have owned a 1070 hybrid card for a few months. my temps are 50-55c with the phanteks SP-120 running at 75% fan speed (~1250rpm) overclocks maintain 2000-2050mhz most of the time, but it has peaked to 2100mhz. only downside is that the pump has loud buzzing, going to RMA it soon.

1070 is not comparable to 1080 TI. If you heard of 1080 TI ARMOR then you know it has 1070 cooler on it and it overheats like crazy. 

This particular hybrid works just fine, there's a little coil whine like I mentioned earlier, but it's not audible in a closed case, it's not something someone playing with sound would notice.

Small update:

 

When temperatures rise, the games start to crash. I tested about 500-750 RPM with my fans and temp got up to 66C and then to around 69C if I recall correctly and The Division just shut off, three times on me. So this GPU must have decent fans attached to it and the ambient temperature in my room is around 30C so it affects it too.

 

I had ti SP120 fans but I will use H100i performance fans 2x at 100% speed and report temps.

 

Core clock seems to be fluctuating like crazy also. Core clock is at 2075 when you open the game, then in the next 10 minutes it will hoover around between 2050 and 2063 (the beginning for The Division) and then after the Helicopter flight, clocks started to go down to around 2025, 2012 and even 1987 and 1974, but it mostly stayed at 2038.

 

This could be due to framerate limit set to 60 therefore I will check it.

 

I don't think it's due to instability of the overclock of the core or memory, however I will test it properly.

 

I will try to use steady voltage tomorrow to see if it fixes things as it was fine before. Temps are not as high as they would be with a air cooler but ambient temps and liquid temps are not helping. Once temperatures drop in the room, I will report more results.

 

Vram and other temps stay same.

 

I will do some further testing with this hybrid card.

Update:

 

V-Sync and unlimited frames make the GPU core clock fluctuate. If V-Sync is on, the core clock stays at 2050 all the time. 

 

I also think that once I replace fans with something better, core clock will jump to 2063.

I bumped the memory to 12550 and works for mine anything past will crash, core is still 2076Mhz and it got slightly colder here in the UK and GPU is never hotter than 52c.

i bought the 1080ti sc2 hybrid this weekend and it's a nice card mine is overclocking very well same as ur card i hit the 2.1ghz and the card was stable on unigine heaven and valley but it crash on firestrike on memory it's perfectly stable at +550mhz and crash i tried +600mhz but it make the system freez but i didn't try anything between 550 and 600 mhz but i will give it a shot once i got time.

my temps are a lot less than urs no more than 50 degrees on core and 60 on the vrm and memory with the stock fan i will try another fan to make it run @40% all time.

I wasn't using a stock fan. I was using old SP120 Red LED fan on my radiator because I could control the speed of the fan.

 

I now have Noctua 3000 Industrial installed and my temps are 41-43C under full load.

 

My card did not hit 2.1Ghz (2100Mhz) my one did 2076Mhz.

 

Stock fan is alright, but it spins to high RPM when it needs to and is loud, hence why I replaced mine with a better one.

yes i confirm the stock fan is too loud and it's controled by the pump this why it spin with high RPM ( i don't know why evga does not include a better fan with this card).

i have some arctic f12 pwm fan somewhere in my closet i will try to connecte it to the motherboard and i will make it run staticly @ 40% or 30% this should help with the noise level.

the other fan inside the shroud is silent and it barely spin even after hours of gaming

Overal i'm pretty happy with the card

It's possible he's got a golden sample, however if his temps are over 60C then it's not likely that he's got 2.1Ghz.

FTW3 Elite owner here

 

I have it on it´s stock air cooler and get 1936Mhz without touching it at around 70°C.

OC is stable at 125Mhz on the core without added voltage for 2050-2075Mhz at 73-75°C.

Memory so far only pushed by 300Mhz so 12600Mhz since it has the 12000Mhz memory from factory but I will see how far I can get it
