7210 SAS-T Console Problems

Hey everyone,

I scored a Service Access Switch durring a recent internship and I needed some help connecting to it via Console. I had the network Admin make a CF card that works for it.    I have a console cable on com4 however whenever I try to connect to it via Putty it just sits at a solid green place holder blinker and sometimes shows weird ascii symbols.  Ive worked with Cisco products and there CLI however I cant get any console connection.

find the manual for it and check what serial settings are required. I bet you have the wrong baud rate or one of the other settings.

EDIT: Found it for you:

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1250190/Alcatel-Lucent-Alcatel-Lucent-7210-Sas-M.html?page=156#manual

Looks like I was right on the baud rate - Putty defaults to 9600

What type of serial cable are you using? The manual says to use a "standard" one, but I'm guessing by that they mean a Cisco-style cable, which is actually a rollover cable.

well I guess the next step might be to get a straight cable instead of the cisco/rollover one, or make yourself a rollover adapter out of some ethernet jacks.Something like this: http://www.ossmann.com/5-in-1.html

EDIT: to clarify, if you have a rollover cable, and roll the wires over a second time, then you basically end up with a straight cable. Also, rollover is not the same as crossover.
