When Will this end?

I wanted to build a new gaming rig and was set for everything except, you guessed it, GPU. Almost every store is out of stock on gpu (I wanted a MSI - GTX 1070 Gaming x) and those who are selling it are selling for way more than it was supposed to be. I checked into it and it's, apparantly, due to etherium mining. So, anyone has any idea when will the price go down and that GPUs will be back in stock?

wow, people are really getting desperate for eth mining

1070 isnt as good as 580 in price/performance for eth mining at a LONG SHOT

 

give it a few weeks

1070 will be enough for me for above average gaming. Think it will take a month for pricing to go down?

plenty of available 1070's atm and 1080's aren't a whole lot more expensive... is your specific one out of stock somewhere?

 MSI - GTX 1070 Gaming x is out of stock on superbiiz, newegg and it is priced at $540 on amazon.

This is sick. It means money for both AMD and Nvidia which means innovation which means faster better tech that's cheaper!

The problem is that people are stocking up on GPUs now and at the current mining rate the cards are expected to pay for themselves in 4-6 months depending on the GPU. If people think they'll be earning the same amount from mining in 3 months they are kidding themselves so anybody paying $600 for a $200 GPU today is going to regret it when it takes them almost a year to see any profit.

Well, they should not have bought the GPUs like crazy and mining and getting a decent profit is for what I have heard is really hard

The problem will be that the delay is so big between all parties involved. By the time miners realize it's not worth buying GPUs for mining, it will take retailers a while to figure it out also so no telling when the retailers will get the message.
