RGB Strip always outputting green

Hi

 

So recently, I installed an RGB strip on my desk. I have it connected to 1 of the rgb headers on my motherboard. Looks dank AF (as the kids say) at night.

 

However, just today, I noticed that whatever colour I set it to, the green light stays on. I can change the colour of the blue and red led's with the asrock rgb app but no matter what, the green led stays on. I have verified that it is not the controller becuase my motherboard has rgb lights under the chipset heatsink and they are working fine. If I unplug the green wire (I wired it up using a breadboard), it turns off.

 

Is it a problem with the controller or the rgb strip??

Which RGB strip is it? Are you sure it's individually addressable? Is it compatible w/ the mobo?

are you suggesting that I plugged the 12v into the green and the green into the 12v

Well, I bought this rgb strip off ebay which I used in my living room and I had some left over. So I thought why not use it on my new PC

As said check your orientation for the connector to see if it is backwards or not seated correctly, also make sure your strip is not too long to the point where it will overload the RGB header.

tried switching them around. Light goes off. I am sure that the wiring is correct. Also, If I unplug the green wire, it turns off and I can use the other colours. Could it be a short where the solder points are on the strip (they are very close together)

I tried wiring it up to a little bit I had left over and it too turns the led green. I'm starting to think that it is my motherboard. Is there any way to reset the controller in the bios??

 

edit: the piece I had left over was quite short (less than a metre)

You can try and reinstall the software to see if that does the job or reset the BIOS if it's within the BIOS directly, but it sounds like it may be a technical problem with the controller.

There should be indications on the actual strip to what points are for which thing. (e.g. 12v connector, R connector, etc.)

 

Make sure to line it up like in the manual

Ok. I am currently downloading something now. Ill reset the BIOS tonight. Hopefully that fixes it. Though I can get around it by unplugging the green wire if I want a different colour.

no, you can't change each led on the strip. They all have to be the same colour

i had the same problem, my cpu cooler's fan stays yellow all the time, I can't set the color right anymore, neither through asrock rgb led or bios.

 

this happened after i reinstall my windows. it work fine if i use manual controller instead of using the rgb port on the mobo.

 

i think what happen is that the leds is stuck on it's last setting (in my case, yellow).

 

i think the only way to solve this is with asrock updating their rgb led software by adding "apply" button like other manufacturers (asus, gigabyte). this will double as a "reset" button.

Hello, 

I've been facing this problem recently. I did all the wiring and connections properly but after plugging in , the green light always stays on no matter what colour I choose. I also tried to turn off the rgb from software but green always stayed lit . And I made sure it wasn't a software or wiring/rgb issue by connecting it to a Bluetooth controller.

I think its my motherboard.

If you know the solution , please help me out.
