Anyone think this game will be finished before the end of next year? With 300+ devs... they should be able to make it work, I'd hope.

Late June for PTU, July for 3.0 release.

Squadron 42 is receiving polish and I think they are sorting out issues with ai pathfinding, i honestly think Squad42 is close but CR wants everything up to standard.

 

Thing is having more people doesn't help, the networking got dropped or delayed (can't remember) because of 1 guy being ill which meant the rest of the team couldn't continue, the guy doing level design for star marine has just left as well so someone needs to pick up the work.

 

Just hoping the PTU hits on my holiday so i can have a weeks worth of play before most people

3.0 should still contain the new NetCode though right? The one reason I'm not on the PU as much as I'd like to be is because the netcode means I get terrible FPS drop while logged in.. My machine is not quite up to modern spec but I should still be able to push a consistant 40-50FPS without harsh drops.

Who knows. The schedule keeps dropping network features one by one. The major refactor has remained untouched so far, but the actual FPS gains are to be seen.

I'd be more suprised if they don't default before the year. Loan #2 was recently filed.

The loan is nothing but good for the company, it either keeps the company above the water and at least gives the company a chance to get SQ42 out and if they don't need it then it allows for them to spend extra money on whatever they want or need to without affecting everyday spending.

 

People and companies take out loans even when they have the extra money in the bank, this is a non issue.

Even if you vehemently dislike the man, if even half the shit he writes holds validity, backers should be more vocal about the lack of progress or questionable use of backer funding. What's the worst that could happen, CR actually bringing timetables and release dates? Or actually deliver on his promises he's been making since 2012? Give full transparency on financial filings? What is it with shitizens and their cognitive dissonance when it comes to criticism.

 

Though I guess whaling over 153 million has the risk of causing a slight case of post-purchase rationalization lul.

You tell me what he's written that's valid and we will see if we agree, the guy hates Chris, Smart then threatened him with a lawsuit before Smart had actually made a game, loves a fight, doxxed several backers, mocked a disabled backer, spread rumours about Sandi being a pornstar. His opinion is void with backers because he destroyed it.

That should be updated tomorrow, the reason why they don't show the earning is the same reason for every company plus if they have 40mil in the bank it'll be "your not spending enough!" If they have 1 mil it'll be "you have spent to much!"

• People from day one have been saying "it's a scam, it'll never happen" while no actual proof that it is failing has been provided. Meanwhile CIG release weekly updates and you can ask a dev about anything on thier website, hell I've even spoken to the legal team regarding T-Shirt for the org.
• We actually play the game and enjoy it? Been playing since the first release and its clear progress is made.
• Personal one of mine is that a majority of people that hate the game and I've spoken to are actually Elite Dangerous fans.
• It cost me £27 to buy the game, i got my moneys worth of game already, the rest in my mind is free, meanwhile i paid more in other games that have not been updated since 2011.

If making game is so easy why did Sega delay a 2d platformer?

Yes, people paying hundreds of dollars gives them an invested interest in the game. Or are you seriously not even considering this a possibility? In which case your snarky remark is utter projection. 

 

Almost a year on the same patch, and 3.0 whilst overdue isn't even shaping up to be feature complete. Needless to say I retracted my $140 and are now watching this train derail in slow-motion.

 

As for Derek Smart, you're basically resting your case as "muh true scotsman". The trick is that investors do get to see those financial filings, whereas backers don't. And how is a loan a good sign when 153 million has already been spent on the game and given the trackers it's nowhere near feature complete. Given the collateral they put up (basically all of it) it seems pretty desperate to me, and not something a company would do if it were financially viable.

Funny you should say that last bit. Because the paragraph above it is a pretty much verbatim rendition of what Derek Smart says happened, as opposed to what actually happened. What a curious coincidence.

 

What actually happened is they took out a loan in the amount of a tax rebate that they have coming later on in the year, so they can operate with the money before they receive the tax rebate. It is common practice for businesses. And guess what - it is common practice for stable businesses only... because, as Derek actually knows very well from personal experience, no bank would give such a loan to a business that is unlikely to pay it back and whose assets are unviable, as they are not insane. Furthermore - what was put up as collateral was the assets of Squadron 42, not "basically all of it", in fact the collateral agreement expressly excludes Star Citizen.  Furthermore, the reason for doing this is NOT that they don't have money, but that the loan is in GBP, which would allow them not to have to convert their USD funds into GBP in order to pay their UK expenses, as currently the exchange rates are very unfavorable. 

 

So worst case scenario - the world economy collapses and CIG don't receive a legally guaranteed rebate entitlement, in which case, they either pay the sum back to the bank from their own money OR the bank owns the first episode of a single player game within the SC lore. 

 

But yeah, I guess the Derek Smart version of events that is touted by his zealots sounds much more fun. Not that you are one of those or anything...

I said I refunded it, before I looked into what DS was writing. I wanted to know why it was progressing below desire.

4) A UK tax credit, like here in the US, is a guaranteed asset, as long as your revenue is in compliance. You can take out a loan against just the tax credit, without putting your entire company and assets on the line – just for that. In this instance, this was not the case. The loan collateral isn’t just for the tax credit, but for highly valuable assets. Of course, as we’ve seen in the case of 38 Studios collapse (1, 2, 3, 4) over State tax credits, things can go sideways pretty quickly if you don’t plan correctly.

Yes, it's common practice to put all of his assets as collateral for a fucking tax reduction. But it's pointless indeed. I'll just be here watching the titanic sink.

Why would a company that's about to go under still be hiring more people? Cuz the team is being expanded every week. It sounds like a stupid move to spend more money when you don't have any left....

 

How exactly isn't any progress being shown? I see progress every week. In the video's which are financed with the money people pay for the subscriptions on the website. Which they also say at the end of every video. So they let us known where the money is being spend. Seeing and hearing all this i don't really know what else i need to know about where they're spending the money.

 

They explained the delays pretty good in recent video's. They're building a game that's never been attempted before on this scale, unforeseen problems and other issues are bound to come along. Building the first system which they are working on now might take a year to complete, but the 2nd will take much much shorter then that and the 3rd and the rest even shorter then that as they learn how to work with the tech and software, they had to build themselves btw, and is more and more refined.

 

I've said it before and ill keep saying it, once the first system is complete the amount of content in this game is going to explode and the speed of releases goes into overdrive. This game will happen and i'm thinking about creating a list of all the haters here and tagging them when they are proven wrong. Going to be quite the list though....

 

I'm also really glad to hear you backed out of the game, means 1 less toxic person to run into, i can only hope all the haters follow you so i can finally play a game without toxic people again.

We don't defend it because we backed it, that would be stupid but we attempt to stop the spread of misinformation plus your also talking to some of the most active players in game. 

 

Plus when you've got someone who apparently got a refund before June/July 2015 who constantly hangs around, makes "i told you so" lists for if it fails then personally I'm gonna sit here and stand up to help the community I built, the amount of people that say people are so unhelpful in this subforum is sad, usually I'll direct them now to our discord channel now so they can actually get help.
