Wild cable

Hello guys, I have this new pc, it's my first desktop computer, so i don't know much about them. This cable seems oddly out of place too me. Should it be connected somewhere or what? It is located by the gpu.

It's the '2' part of the 6+2 PCIE cable. Your GPU, as you plugged in, uses two cables: one with 6 and one with 8 pins (6 pin PCIE and 6+2 pin PCIE respectively).

Some videocards use two 6+2.. Some two 6.. Or whatever other type of combination. because of this reason your power supply has the 6 and 2 pin on one cable, but they can be detached if you don't need the 2 pin (in your case that is like that).

TL;DR:

it's part of the 6+2 pin, which you don't need the 2 pin side of.

You would know if there would be two more pin connectors on your GPU, which there is not on your GPU xD

Your GPU needs a 6 pin and 8 pin (8 pin sometimes known as 6+2 PCIE)

Your 1080 has a 8+6pin setup, you don't need to plug in the extra 2 pin from the second 6+2pin if there's no room.
