Recommend me a Ryzen Compatible Aircooler which allows for good overclocking please :D

Hi guys,

 

I am pretty close to starting my first ever PC build. One of the only things I still have to decide is what CPU Cooler to use. 

I think I want to go the air cooling route and my budget is about 60$ to 70$. I would like it to allow for some nice overclocking of my 1700.

You can either go cheap and get the Cryorig H7, which outperforms the 212 EVO whilst looking better, or maybe the NH-D15S for higher end air coolers.

NOPE. Cryorig M9i/M9a is cheaper, better looking, quieter, and performs better.

 

H7 performs even better but costs a bit more. R1 is high-end territory if u wanna go there

Be quiet also make some good looking coolers for fairly cheap budgets but I'm not sure about the performance.

The wraith spire that comes with the 1700 is good enough for a modest OC to about 3.7/3.8Ghz with decent case cooling... but the cryorig will be better, but don't expect to get much higher than 3.7-3.9 without having to up the vcore quite a bit anyway.

The stock cooler is about equivalent of the hyper 212 so in this case that would be a waste of OP's money. He should use the surprisingly good stock cooler or a bigger noctua cooler

Cryorig H7 is a pretty great choice for basically any processor, and costs $35 while looking inoffensive.  I'm waiting on my AM4 bracket to show up this week before I put one on a 1600X, but I've used them on a number of other machines as well.  The one in the build I put together for my friend keeps his Phenom II x4 that we unlocked to a 6 core (aka an old power hungry CPU) nice and cool, I've barely ever heard the fan spin up in a very open case sitting next to his TV.

 

It's not like Ryzen is gonna clock much/any higher with one air cooler vs another.  The architecture hits a wall right around 4GHz basically no matter what you do.

 

Edit, just saw OP has an R7 1700.  The stock cooler is fine, I'd start with that and only grab an aftermarket cooler like an H7 if you feel like you're having trouble keeping temps in line.
