Dust Problems with the Define C

Icefly

Hey!

I wonder if someone has a good lifehack or trick or some good tips for making my pc more dust resistant.

Are there good working ways to collect less more dust even with dustfilter on?

And how often do you guys a clean up for your PC? once a week? every second week?

I clean my PC once a month but i think that's not enough.

Have a Positive airflow in your case and have the intakes covered with dust filters. I don't clean my PC too often like every 2 months if I even care.

I use a HEPA air filter connected directly to my PC for 99.97% dust-free air.

If you have pets or carpet then you probably have a ton of dust in your room.

Maybe try better fan filters or get a room air filter? Because you're breathing all that stuff in too, you know...

Yeah 2 dogs and my room is full of dust after a week. If i go 1 meter over my table with my finger my finger is gray without a single colored mark.

Air filter is a good idea but i will move in one or two years anyway. Are there more good aftermarked filters to buy like the HEPA Filter?

But look out for your Fans. They can turn off if they get fully covered and you PC wil burn like a Pizza you forget for 30-40mins

- Keep your PC off the floor (especially if you are on a carpet), even just sticking a few textbooks underneath it can make a difference

- Maintain more intake airflow than exhaust (positive pressure) with the minimum total flow requires for the cooling.

- Use the dust filters that came with the case

I use the dust filters that comes with my Define C. I've never got the idea to buy extra filter stuff. But putting more filter on top of the installed filters seems like a good idea for me.

I guess youbcan also consider minimising the fan speeds. less airflow into the case = less dust.

That's not a good option for me tho

ASUS Prime Z270-A , i7 7700, Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU cooler, 2x8gb HyperX Fury 2400mhz RAM,

1x Corsair HD120 RGB Fan in the back of the Case and 2x Fractal Design fans on the front that came with the Case,

Palit GTX 1070 Super Jetstream.

My specs should be listed on my profile but i don't know how private i made my profile on the LTT Forum (if that's even possible).

There is one other thing i haven't tried yet... or that i going to try now. I removed the dust filter on the top and replaced it with the solid panel so no air goes out through the top.

Im kinda nervous about that because my old pc is running at 80°C+ without airflow or a open top.

What rpm are you running the fans at and what direction are they facing?

If you have all your intakes filtered and your exhausts don't overpower your intakes, dust should be minimal.

If you're worried about your temps, use a program like OCCT and Unigine Valley to stress your components and see what your load temps are.

All Fans pushing air to the back of my Case. I don't have any Fans on the top of the Case and it seems like the dust is coming from the top. It was better with the closed top but it is still bad in the end. The front Fans are pretty slow. They are the Fans that comes with the Case. In the back i got a HD120 from corsair. I'll switch the front Fans soon to the Corsair ML140's.

Dust pretty much always comes from top, like snow... Unless you have a really dusty air, or you keep your pc on the floor.

I took a look at my psu dust filter, which is located under the case. It looked like new without being cleaned for 4 years. I took it completely away after I tested how much it restricts airflow just by blowing through it.

Best Practices:

1. Always have dust filters on all intakes.

2. keep positive pressure (more fans intake than exhaust), keep in mind filters reduce airflow so 2 filtered intakes =/= 2 exhaust, also consider different fans perform differently.

3. Keep PC off the floor and as high as possible. The higher up the PC is, the less dust it gets exposed to.

4. Keep your room clean, vacuum and dust often.

5. With cases with an open top and without exhaust fans on the top, install dust filters on any vents facing up, this will keep dust from "snowing down" into the case.

6. If the stock filters are large pores then get replacement filters with much finer mesh to catch finer dust.

My case is well setup to the point that I maybe have to dust every 6mo and even then it's almost nothing that's gotten inside. It sits on a desk so very little dust exposure as well.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.
