Yup, I was just rearing to get things done early this morning, it'll go public around noon but figured you guys wouldn't mind seeing it a bit early.

That moment when I got first post on an LTT video by over half an hour but couldn't think of anything funny to say, so I commented on how there were no other comments and was subsequently ignored.

Why waste all that money on a case-- totally unnecessary component, only good for appearance obsessed snobs and with no place in the cheapest of cheap builds!

Wow! The Geforce 8440gs's performance is so great it is off the charts.

Seriously though, the CPU's integrated graphics are more powerful (G3D score of 242 for comparison). An actually totally unnecessary component...

I mean the case has nothing to do with performance, don't hate on it for being what it is. As someone who owns the XION-310 I do not at all think the evaluation of this case is fair, You are literally getting a box made from punched steel sheeting with powder coat paint AND usb 3.0 AND audio AND LED power/reset buttons AND an LED case fan for $25 bucks. Similarly priced as an Noctua case fan ffs.

I feel that modern-day society is so far removed from the manufacturing wizardry needed to produce a lunch box like the XION-310 that you  still mange to get disappointed becasue it does not come w a rear case fan.  I would not go looking for autopilot in a bottom trim Toyota Corral would you? The XION-310 is a box for your computer, that cost $25 there is little to nothing to complain about.

Now this is what I think was really unfair becasue I find it to be false, or at least very unlikely:

My XION-310 has no sharp edges on the exterior of the case what so ever, I don't even know where you would even find such edges on the exterior either. Those razor sharp edges (called burrs) are a byproduct of the stamping process and occur when the tooling comes in contact with the sheet metal and literally "sheers" the tool into the work. Like a giant cookie-cuter. The edges that run along the perimeter of the post-stamped work are then what have the burrs. On the exterior of the XION-310 there is no such sheet metal ends protruding along the case. All the corners of the XION-310 comprise of sheet metal bends and not sheered surface. It would be very unlikely that the tooling used to bend the work would produce a razor sharp surface. The only such surface that could even produce this symptom of burrs is at the rear of the XION-310  where the side panel mates with the case-body; even then this surface is bent flat with the rear panel and Is at an un-opportune location to cut someone. Further more; on at least my example of the XION-310 I found the powder coat to be sufficient of  a finish to classify the aforementioned location to be unworthy of the description "sharp".

The fact that the XION-310 exists for $25 AT ALL is a miracle and is worthy of praise for this reason alone. Whatever factory this came from the workers where paid in chewing gum becasue this same exact case made in USA would cost 60 bucks.

SO let me give a real honest opinion of the XION-310 as someone who used it for over a year:

-Its a metal and plastic box

-I find it looks just as unoffensive as any tire 1 prebuilt under 1000$

-Comes with more front panel IO than a Macbook has in it's entirety.

-holds a full fledged M-ATX system (regardless of how low-end or high end they are)

-As shown in Luke's video on air cooling it has the ideal amount of fan spots (2) for reasonably appreciation of cooling to fan ratio returns.

-The fan it comes with works just fine, an additional fan is like $4

-Cost less than a freaking steak people COMON!

Luckily, I held my cringe until they finally switched to the iGPU, which was the way to go from the beginning if the idea was "the cheapest PC in Newegg". Although it did serve the purpose of reminding us why ultra-low-end GPUs are a niche thing, not something to be considered for main GPU by typical consumers.

I wonder what the total cost of the build was, I don't think he mentioned it. I tried calculating it from the linked parts, but the links are to different parts (a Sempron CPU and an AM1 board, not the A8-3870K and FM1 board used in the video).

I still have one of these.  It was originally purchased for an HTPC but the FM1 board at the time died.  I kept the CPU because I didn't have the heart to toss it, it's actually a pretty neat little chip and gaming wise it offer SOME nice features for a box that mostly JUST played videos and even some light gaming.  I eventually got a replacement mATX FM1 board and it's serving as the temp/test board in my eMachine restoration project.  (Which I really should get back on)

Are Linus' hands still dyed from that jug of thermal paste? Or do they always have that strange color?

EDIT: I just saw the ad spot at the end and his hands look normal. I guess you guys used some weird color grading in the main video? Also looks like the lighting is a lot better in ad spot. Linus doesn't look oompa loompaish anymore.

My G2 (a smartphone from 2013) scores nearly 5 times higher than the 8400 GS in that Ice Storm bench...

The total cost was 151.99.  I couldn't link to all the same parts since the ones we got aren't available anymore, the cheapest stuff on Newegg changes weekly it seems.

Yeah he has a good channel, this was more showing how bad a computer would be if you just chose the cheapest part in every category, if we chose used parts and spent a tiny bit more we easily could have built a PC that was twice as good.  Like the GPU we knew was going to be hella bad and GPU money being spent on RAM would have made it heaps better.
