Just noticed how efficiency scales so well with cores. So it's worth it for company's to invest in the biggest chips. (Bit of a no shit Sherlock moment).

not to mention they could also pull another dick move and make it a 4-cpu config only thing, so you have to buy 4 of them to use them on a $5000 motherboard.

Ok, if that is all correct, a 16 core, albeit lower clocked than likely threadripper looks like it is going to be, with double the memory channels and more PCIe lanes for 600-800 USD. Nice.

I was more alluding to what that likely means for the price of threadripper tbh.

That TDP looks a bit too high for the low core count models, especially considering the low clock speed. 
The clockspeed is lower than intels which based on threadripper leaks shouldn't be happening, and if true AMD has little chance of beating intel. Unless of course the server processors are way downclocked for some reason even though they are supposed to be better binned.

This basicly confirms they will always use a balanced setup so eypic has to be divisible by 8 and Thread ripper has to be divisible by 4.

intel's higher count server chips have limitations as some of them dont have fast access to IO, and some are weaker cores, if amd can improve the scalability of the cpu hey might still win even with lower clocks

true but id love to see someone try to get one of the 180W chips in a 1u chasies with air cooling, i dont know if there is even a way to do that lol. probably a huge ass vapor chambre and then just heatsink in the rest of the 1u lol

dont forget that the chipset is integrated so expect simpler boards that use less power

it would be easy, because this heat is being produced in a large area so cooling it down wont be a problem

this may be a big chip but its still 180W and 1u is very little space to work with
