Japan's VR arcade: VR Zone Shinjuku

Gaming in Japan just got a lot more awesome as they have open its doors to their VR arcade. Located in Shinjuku, VR Zone Shinjuku, is a place where people can have fun playing games in virtual reality. Some of the games they have are, Height Fear Show, Despair Jungle, The Soul of the Soul, and famous ones like Mario Kart and Dragon Ball. Each of the games uses custom specialized equipment, so players can get the true experience. Such as Mario Kart, you actually get to sit in a racing cockpit, while Despair Jungle, a game where you must out run a dinosaur, puts the player on a thread mill. All of them will be using HTC Vive Business Edition VR headsets, and as for well known game titles, it all depends on Bandai Namco since, they made

the VR experiences at VR Zone Shinjuku, but we’re not sure if they are available to other VR arcades. The Mario Kart Arcade VR game is an adaptation of Bandai Namco’s Mario Kart license for arcade cabinets. Bandai also holds the distribution license for "Dragon Ball" video games. It’s entirely possible that these games will see wider distribution in the future.

I've been at VR zone last year when they were at Odaiba (Tokyo) and it was a nice experience for sure.

Price is 800 yen for adults which converts to only $USD7.2 only? That's cheap imo

http://vrzone-pic.com/en/ticket.html

800 yen is just to enter the facility, not per "attraction". For each attraction you need to pay extra. As I noted before, in Odaiba some attractions were more expensive than other. Eg. Yamanote line (train) simulator was much cheaper than eg. save the cat on the plank at 200m high building.

Btw the facility is only 20min from my company so I can pay a visit one day after the work ^^

honestly i wouldn't doubt it if this revived arcades from the death. quality VR is too expensive and too much hassle for most people, especially if you want highly customized experiences such as racing cockpits etc. people go kart racing, laser gaming stuff like that and i think this is a good add on to those activity's.

as someone mentioned the 800 yen is just to enter the arcade... so thats just over 7$ to enter. so probably an hour of play time will end up the sameish because you still have to pay for each game separate. (they need the same hardware of course just cost of labor is different)

By arcades you mean money sucking claw machines and pachinko?

(I'm only kind of joking, I had to leave the several I went to because they were blatant money grabs)

They were issuing a disposable mask which acts like barrier between face and VR headset. Here is how it looks like:

They were also using alcohol tissues to wipe anything that people were touching

Usually pachinkos are separate establishments (which are super noisy). By arcades I was thinking about multi story buildings with money sucking claw machines on the first floor and various game machines on other. Eg. http://www.segaarcade.com/

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

Ah I went to the sega arcade in ikebukuro and it was 4 floors of claw machines, then I left, not checking the other two floors

edit:  there were also a lot of gatcha dispensers too

And it sucked cause the claw machines had a lot of stuff I would gladly have just paid for.  Some nice dragon quest plush
