125Tdp cooler at 130W CPU?

HeartOfGermany

Hey, I want to run dual Xeon X5690 (130Wtdp) instead of my X5560 (95Wtdp)

Die temp stabilizes to around MAX 60°C at 20°C room temp and is limited to 100°C by Intel. What about summer with up to 40°C? And since ark.intel or so says it has no temperature management I don't know, if it will throttle at T-max, reset or blow off.

The cooler is rated for 125Wtdp. Is it possible to synthetically load the CPUs to 100% with that cooler? Don't ask for the brand - it is propably a AMD ripof (yeah, I pressed on a AMD cooler to a Xeon, because I got 2 coolers for 10 bucks plus 5 shipping. Nothing came close to that that did even perform close to that!

If you want an image search for ebay item 262888845304. That is basically a no brand in my opinion - but I saw an identical cooler from AMD.

Is a cooler upgrade neccesary or can it run? I don't want to blow 2 Xeon X5690 since they still are close to a fortune. It is planned to be bought in about 6 months - I wait till the price drops a bit. For now the 5560 is fast enought.

Would realy like to hear your opinion.

Thanks for help!

And does that realy damage the chip long term? I mean... how many CPUs die anyway?

Edit:

5560 will not be fast enought for long. I am planning on a midrange 3 gamers 1 CPU over the ethernet setup. For 3 sequential games dual 5690 is much better. Already installed 36 gig of 2 rank 3 channel Ram. Motherboard only sees it as 800mhz, but I guess that will be fine - it is 3 channels after all.

Should be fine just keep an eye on your temps during summer. If the room temperature increases the CPU should more or less increase the same.
