TVAddons, the leading library for unofficial Kodi add-ons, has mysteriously disappeared. The site's domain names have become unresponsive after the DNS entries were removed. It's unclear why these drastic actions were taken, but since TVAddons was sued last week, some fear the worst.

 

Last week we broke the news that third-party Kodi add-on ZemTV and the TVAddons library were being sued in a federal court in Texas.

 

TVAddons’ domain name stopped responding. The domain’s DNS entries have been removed which means that it’s no longer accessible to the public. 

 

In response to our latest email inquiry, we received an error message, suggesting that the site’s official email addresses are no longer functioning due to the domain troubles.

 

TVAddons has also gone quiet on social media, where TVAddons has been very active in the past. However, the last updates on Twitter and Facebook date back more than a week ago. In fact, a few hours ago TVAddons’ Facebook page disappeared completely.

 

Huge blow to the Kodi community. Pretty much all "official" traces of TVAddons have dissappeared over night. I personally had issues setting up a new fire stick friday, and found today its simply not possible any longer. Wonder whats going to become of the Fire Stick now if you cant so reasily setup a kodi box.

I'm honestly impressed that it was able to stay up so long.  While torrenting has been the villain for a long time, it was either too "complicated" for most casual users, or "difficult" to find what you wanted in decent quality.  When I started seeing coworkers who could barely work email talking about how they had Kodi, and they were watching movies that were barely out or not even in theaters yet, I knew it was only a matter of time.  Torrenting is really hard to go after, because it requires a certain amount of know-how on the user, which makes getting around blocks rather easy.  But Kodi and people with their Firesticks just made it super easy to pirate everything.  I figured the media industries would have been going after it harder and faster than they have so far.

Well you could kill piracy: I wouldn't pirate if I could watch the shows I like on services like Netflix, Amazon prime, etc. But alas, production companies are too stupid to take my fucking money and make this content unavailable while pressuring Netflix to detect VPN connections too.

 

Though I personally take the better road and not watch their fucking content at all (I don't pirate btw because of this) Rather choke out the interest the content might generate by pirating it and just watch something else on youtube or game.

Well, this kind of piracy went big and broad into the mainstream users.  I've literally seen brick and mortar store fronts offering 'Kodi Xboxes' for sale in their signage.  The addon sites and such needed a big, public face to reach that kind of audience, box sellers wanted to attract users and sell units, and people told other people.  This created a massive, slow moving target that would be easy for copyright holders to engage in a courtroom.  So all it took was a few filings for the biggest players to go '...Oh shit... Uhh, RUN. D:'

 

Oh sure there will be mirrors and lots of things, but those won't be NEARLY as accessible as what it was before and so while those more technically inclined and tuned in may work around it, most of the Joe or Jane Schmoe with a Kodi Box are probably going to need to renew that Netflix subscription.

 

Meanwhile, the only video addons my Kodi boxes use are YouTube and Twitch.  All the media is served off a 33.5TB server in a corner. :)

Yeah I KINDA don't buy this.  Who does 'maintenance' and then ALSO takes down the Facebook page and the Twitter account? You don't.  You keep those UP and then USE THOSE to disseminate information about your maintenance.  So maybe this is rumor.  Maybe it's just BS.  Maybe it's a power struggle while some diehards at TVAddons want to say 'It's just maintenance!!!' after everyone else decided to close up shop and run.

 

Whatever it is, it is most certainly not just maintenance.

Well, no.  It very much is NOT speculation that TVAddons is dead.  It's established fact.  The servers are down, the domain is unregistered, the social media sites were all killed.  It's definitely dead. Weather or not it will come back, how it will do that, and in what form, THOSE are speculation.  It being dead however is currently fact.

Oh sure, there's lots of ways to rip from Crunchyroll or Funimation with the right tools.  But that's something different. You're talking abut ripping someone's box set and that physical media is slowly spinning down for streaming. :P

 

Not to mention, if the means of piracy were to somehow spin down to just people sharing files with SneakerNet on USB keys,that would be the conclusion of a truly massive blow to piracy, if file sharing had to go THAT far backwards and underground, copyright holders would call that decisive victory.

I don’t stream in Kodi myself, but it makes a fantastic player. I can just sit back in bed with an Xbox remote, and put on whatever anime or ripped disc I have. Works great on my Atom Windows tablet, though software HEVC decode is notably slower than MPC-HC's. 

 

Now, if it had an add on to launch games (including Steam games), then I wouldn't need to break out the wireless keyboard for in bed gaming. (Of course, it might already have it and I don't know of it yet).

Given the massive size of flash drives nowadays, and the new codecs available, Sneakernet piracy would probably be more viable and effective today than a decade or so ago. Wifi Virtualization can also be used to facilitate piracy within a short range (set up content filled laptop in backpack, launch wifi Hotspot, share folders). 

 

Of course, physical means requires some form of connections or knowledge of how the content is distributed, so it will never be as big as online piracy. Though those that want it badly enough can probably find a way.

Well you will always have far weaker economies around the world, however Steam with regional pricing and free-to-play has shown that you can still do business in those scenarios instead of leaving it all on the table due to piracy.

 

However the movie industry has learned exactly this much about this models: 0

Say I'm interested only in The Walking Dead, Last Week Tonight, Orange Is the New Black and The Grand Tour.

 

I'd need to get a full-on digital TV package to get AMC so I can watch The Walking Dead, HBO Go or HBO Now for Last Week Tonight, Netflix for OItNB and Amazon Prime for The Grand Tour.  Sure, you can watch The Walking Dead on Netflix, but then you're an entire season behind everyone else. 

 

Pretty soon people are going to realize just how much they're paying for all their subscriptions combined, and then they're going to stop.  Content creators are only making it worse with all their retarded geoblocking nonsense.  As long as the entertainment industry tries to just milk their audience instead of listening to them, piracy isn't going anywhere.

Well if this dies something will take it's place and as for me I'll keep using this kind of stuff till I can watch these geo blocked shows on TV and netflix

If you only watch those shows then buy them on iTunes or google play.

 

The whole I only watch 5 shows so why should I have to pay massive amounts for cable argument is dead.

 

The only reason I now download stuff I when it is practically impossible for me to get officially. E.g Clone High
