rat resistant cables

Soon i plan on wiring 2 PCs and an access point to the grid. The problem is, in winter I tend to get lots of rats moving into the roof. I hear they like to chew on cabling for the insulation or whatever, is there an easy way to prevent this? Thanks

I'm not all too against poisoning the place so they don't come in, but i don't want any corpses in my attic. also poison isn't a long term solution is it?

maybe the rat version of mothballs (if such a thing exists), and just renewing them every winter?

I was thinking taping the cabling down or against somethings so it's hard for them to get to and would pretty much never be in the way for them, the issue then is i also want the cables to exit at a vertical wall, and that might mean making it accessible to them pesky rodents.

Thanks

i have a few ideas:

1: poison them(with the stuff that they bring back to the nest and therefor kill all of them)

2: kevlar wrap the wires, should help them for a while

3: incase the wires in metal/acrylic/whatever you have on hand

4: tape the wires to the walls so they cant get to them

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

they are smarter than that lol, he'll come out of there when he's cold, and go back for food.

Jokes aside, if you know where they come in, you could try blocking the hole? you could also wrap it in foil? or simply add a wooden layer over the cables...

Find the point of entry and seal it then put traps around it.

if you don't like dead rats you could use traps to catch them alive.

you would have to check on the traps every once in a while and think about a way to get rid of the rats you captured but at least they are not dead (yet)

There are ethernet cables which have double insulation and some toxic / repellent substance between the two layers. But that is mostly for squirrels and various animals, not quite aimed for rats and mice.

Sadly, I wouldn't know where you could buy this.

What I can suggest would be to use some  wire ducts, or some protective hose/sleeving  or some spiral wraps so that the cable would be inside a metal duct, and therefore rats would have a harder time to reach it.

Digikey (US seller of electronic components and all related to it) has a lot of options, here's the "cable management" category : https://www.digikey.com/products/en#cat-23

Some products are even marked as "vermint resistant" but there's few which highlight this particularity and they're usually a bit expensive.

As a snake owner, if I had rats at my place, I would do this, free food for the snake, and I'm getting rid of a problem at the same time

My parents has a few cats, and rats would get into the unfinished basement. after a few weeks of cats being down there and lovely presents from them the rats stop showing up.
