Did you ever read Voltaire's "Candide"?
He says live life at Benny Hill freak out speed
Not a quote of what he wrote but a paraphrase
Make it up as you go Keyser Soze
Highlights yes but don't underline 'em
Just live for N.O.W. like Gloria Hudson
Life is like Marion Barry
It's not all it's cracked up to be
Like Fred Sanford when the big one comes
Find the meaning of life is there is none
It's twenty-four hours when you call it a day
Be Frank and say "I Did It My Way"
Don't give a flying nun no don't give
Just have more fun than a well-oiled midget
If life were picture perfect you could frame it
But the world is a diaper so let someone else change it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

All born equal unless you're Canadian
Then halfway through decay like Uranium
You define what's death-defying
Get the most out of life or at the least die trying
Are you Evil Knievel jumping a train?
Or running with scissors like Frasier Crane?
Have really good times do really bad things
'Cause the show ain't over 'til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his candle in the wind
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him
But we've all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper
Whether you're Einstein whether you're Beaker
Death is certain so it's definitely worth flirtin'
Don't expect a bright light no just curtains
Life is like a penis most people don't know it
But most people suck so they usually blow it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

not everyone enjoys life.. only the fortunate few.

some babys born then die right after..

some people struggle to live a happy life..

some people work hard to get to live a life like people they live up to

-and in the end, all of us dying and ending up as nothing-

Life is a zero sum game, no matter what you do in life = 0, maybe thats a more accurate definition than "we live to die", it sounds too depressing.

The whole universe has no meaning, neither god or no god, all is 0 because logically it makes no sense to exist rather than not exist.

Life just happened we are here, the most basic thing you have to do in life is to survive by whatever means you can, if you dont you die,you die sooner rather said.

We have no insurance that this whole universe wont cease to exist tomorrow or in 1000 years, no matter the technology or quality of civilization that we strive for, god or the universe may cease to exist, we simply are too small and insignificant.

I see death as a salvation from the pain of life, now depends how good/bad your life is made.

I only live my life to enjoy it, if it becomes unejoyable at some point i might aswell die, i have no suicidal tendencies its just how i view things.

The only life i would love to live, is somwhere on an utopian planet colony after i transplanted my brain into an android body and have a mini super AI computer attached to my brain, and live a life of enjoyment in a top quality civilization.

Living between primitive corrupt monkeys on earth is terrible for me i hate it very much.

As long as primitive humans are the majority i do not want anything to do with any society.

There is two reasons to live, everyone should try to do at least one of them:

  • Try to enjoy your life
  • Try to help others, so they enjoy their life more

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don't just give up.”

The universe is endless and the atoms that make us who we are are currently borrowed. Once we die we still become one with the universe. It's impossible to get rid of us!

Everything we know, felt and experienced will be no longer.

Hence why life is a waste of time.

There is no real goal to life because the end result is death

But everything you learn, feel and experience now is what makes life worth living.

The joy of life is there is no real goal. Some can choose to benefit the world for the people who will live after them. (later generations)

Others will sit, do nothing, and complain about it.

Non of that logically follow.

You would need to demonstrate how something being finite = it being a waste of time.

You would also have to demonstrate how our ultimate demise = no real goals to life.

Untill you have demonstrated these two things in a logically coherent manner, you're just making illogical assumptions.

Reading through this thread is like reading through a 13 year old's diary right after they discovered Nietzsche, Berkeley and Descartes on SparkNotes.

All that's needed to complete it is the Papa Raoch lyrics scrawled at the bottom.

Edit:

Essentially it reads like this

Nova doctrina terribilis sit perdere

We come on earth and live thru pain and die and leave pain behind us..

When we live we see everyone or some of the people we care for and love die. the longer you live the more funerals you have to go to. it can be a friend or family.

when we die, the same thing goes for us. we die and leave people behind sad and in tears.

tell me what is the point? what is the sense?

If you have to ask, you'll never understand. For those of us who know, it's amazing and totally worth it.

you believe living a life with death and pain and ending is death is worth it?

you believe temporary happiness is worth everything that comes with it?

I wish I could explain it to you but words cannot describe it and even if I could find a way to convey it you couldn't begin to comprehend or understand it because you wouldn't let yourself understand it. Sorry. :(

Well, that demonstrates exactly non of the things I wanted demonstrated. You still go by the assumption that life being finite = life being meaningless.

An assumption you have yet to demonstrate the validity of.

But I'll humor you on.

What do you base your assumption of life = pain on?

Since life as a concept is inherintly subjective I find it hard to imagine how you can validate an objective statement like that.

Everyone live their life in accordance with their own standards, their own goals and their own outlook.

Where some people see pain other see purpose, where other see suffering other see solace.

Why would funerals be sad by virtue? I don't think I've ever been sad at a funeral.

I would much rather you a person's death to celebrate their life than mourn their death.

You also seem to go buy the assumption that, since your last experience in life is negative, then the entirty of the happiness you've experienced in your life is null and void.

Sure, dying is kinda sad, but what about all the good things a person has experienced in life?

Lastly, I can't tell you what the purpose of life is. That's for you to figure out for yourself.

Every single person on the planet has their own purpose; their own self determination.

There's no big tablet in the sky telling us an objective meaning to life.
