Good laptop for general home usage and word thingies

Hi. I need some laptop suggestions that arent too expensive and are good for some general home usage and word. Please dont say like "oh nitrous you already have a pc you can use that its completely useless to get a different computer for it" im not going to use it myself. My grandfather needs it because its current is like 10 yrs old. I've already backed up the most important files. He also prefers Windows 10.

I got my grandmother an Acer Chromebook 15 and it's probably one of the best decisions I made. Sure there's a slight learning curve going from office->google docs but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Advantages:

  • Cheap (So even if it slows down after 3 years, you could buy another and the total would still be less than most conventional laptops)
  • Fast boot time
  • Long battery life
  • Better security (because it can't run .exe files) and fast updates
  • Easy to use compared to a Windows laptop - there's a lot less to go wrong

Disadvantages:

  • Can't run Windows applications
  • Slightly different experience to a Windows laptop

I edit my posts a lot.

You do know that in the windows system info it says "7.7gb usable" because windows allocates some ram to run the actual os?

Nope it is motherboard limitation. 7.7 GB usuable shows as the ram that can Windows use to run itself.

Pretty sure it's reserved for iGPU

I just recently bought a HP Spectre x360 13.3in with a i5 7200U and 8gb ram with 128gb ssd. Its full 1080p and is lightning fast for normal tasks and about a 5 sec boot time. Battery life is fastastic and easily get 8-10hrs of video playback. I paid $450 on Ebay for a certified refurbished one with the 1yr warranty.
