but still 1080 for me is too little, i have a ultrawide 1080p and a 1080p monitor, i am fine with the horizontal space i have, but more vertical space would be good

I am a strong ultrawide defender but this is just silly... besides too much screen space for too little resolution.

Looking at the article, it seems that Samsung has added a feature that will allow the monitor to act as if it were two monitors, just with no bezel. So, you could have four windows on the monitor from left to right, or you could play a fullscreen game on one side and do productivity stuff on the other side.

I think making the screen wider and wider is still a compromise.

The solution to more immersion/productivity is larger screen + high pixel density. (or VR)

That game you're talking about must be horribly optimized.

I for example play battlefield 1 all the time at 5760x1080 (with a 1080) which is even more demanding than this monitor and it runs at 70-80 fps on ultra settings. And it's not exactly an easy to run game.

I think at this point, we should have a way of creating virtual monitors that can fit in your monitor's display resolution on the OS level. Then you can have the desktop fit in virtual monitor 1 and 2 so we can do the thing that I want on the desktop, and game on virtual monitor 3.

Not surprised by this monitor. I remember when similar was demoed for Crysis back then. To me ultra wide was already silly, this is another extra width added. I two monitors which are 24" so this would like that, in one monitor. Even small I think in height. Either way I could see it like productivity and content creation but would never game on it.

 

But yeah, one of the first FreeSync 2 monitors so that's great

To expand on my last thing about virtual monitors, I realized you wouldn't have to have a third virtual monitor. You could throw the game up in one of the virtual monitors and have it shove the other monitor out of the viewing area. The OS won't tell the GPU to render the area outside of the viewable area, but it will still do it internally.

I don't think MC can pull it off ; their virtual desktops is enough evidence that they don't particularly know how to deal with such issues

Exactly , no one does it well and I hate to admit it  but Apple does it best

I get what you are trying to say , it would be really cool y imagine just essentially disabling pixels on the screen at will ; however , it's unlikely anyone is working on such stuff with very specific use cases

This is probably Samsung's attempt on what you are describing ; where they are creating what is basically a free-form grid of monitors within their massively wide monitor. The software is what excites me, although it seems it will only be for this monitor. 
I wish I could use to to create a newspaper-like column monitor  that shows me important stuff at all times
We could only hope they make it for all their future monitors.
