PS4 vs HTC Vive

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

So I have a little bit of money and I've come across a dilemma.  I found a sick deal on Craigslist for an HTC Vive for $500, nothing missing or broken but I realize VR is a relatively new area in gaming and it doesn't exactly have the largest or most supported library yet. On the other hand I can get a PS4 and some games for less than or equal to $500.  Now to me the obvious choice is to go for the PS4 because I can actually get games with it and it could be cheaper plus it's a whole different console not just a fancy edition to PC.  BUT I think VR is freaking awesome and I would love to try it but I don't want it to be a quick little, "Oh this is cool but I'm just going to go back to regular gaming," kinda thing.  So any opinions on VR, what I should choose and why would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

ps4, to play games like last of us, you can also use PSVR( not as good as vive)

The Last of Us is one of the biggest selling points for getting a PS4 right now yeah.

Get a PS4 Pro, and you can play in 4K and it'll run PSVR better than a normal PS4.

I don't have anything that displays 4K except one TV that I won't be playing on but that's true.

And it'll just run everything else smoothly. And if you decide to hook it up to the 4K TV or get a 4K monitor for it at some point, you're good to go. Besides, it's awesome.

i don't remember if they kept this, but Sony added a Boost mode for the PS4 Pro that tries to improve performance in games with no Pro patch. Eurogamer covered this, and concluded that it's worthwhile to keep enabled, although the improvements are small. but honestly, a Pro is a lot more valuable if you have a 4K TV.

As much as I love the VIVE, it still isn't all there yet and requires a bit of space. I'd say go with the ps4.

As a Vive owner, I would say Vive IF and ONLY IF you are willing to put up with the endless bugs and issues. If you simply want something to plug and play then PS4.

But if you are easy either way, then I can not recommend the Vive enough, it IS the future of gaming in my humble opinion, and will turn like the original iphone, where the kits 10 years down the line are worth a fortune.
