yea i know ssds sound amazing but that gsync though it sounds so good

I have a freesync monitor and it's NOT as cool as you think. It's not.

It sounds cool, yes, but in reality it's not nearly as cool as it sounds.

Don't get me wrong it's not crappy technology but 100 bucks? That's just too much.

I got a 1080p 144Hz freesync with an RX 480, Freesync was a 30 dollar premium and tbh that's about what i would pay for it, maybe 50 bucks, but i'll never pay 100 bucks for it.

so my build has got a gtx 1070 in it a ryzen 1600 and a bunch of other stuff but the point is i've ran over my budget and i cant dont know what to drop g sync, 1440p and then go down to 1080p or 144hz. By the way ive already tried squeezing more out of my budget by down grading my hard drive and droping a ssd

What  monitor size are you planning to get?

You should ditch g-sync regardless what you do, it's not worth it compared to an SSD.

What's your current build?

Why not get a 1500X?

1080p 144Hz and get an ssd. Ignore g-sync.

If you are planning to keep the monitor for a long time and are prepared to maybe switch to team red, it could be worth getting a freesync monitor tho. At least that price difference shouldn't be big.

Anyway, whatever you do, get a SSD.

If you drop down from a 1600 you should get a 1400 and OC it, imo 1500X is worse value than the other 2.

YES yes yes they are. With such a system an SSD is imo a requirement.

I have SSD's everywhere apart from 1 backup-pc i rarely use and my god going back to HDD only is awful.

Once you go SSD you'll never want to go back.

1500X comes with the cooler (just like the 1400), has XFR, and a higher base clock for $20.

You should have one. Getting a 250GB SSD gives you quite a bit of room until you can buy an HDD.

G-Sync should be one of the last things to bother looking for in a monitor once you're set on a resolution/refresh rate combo (eg: deciding on 2560x1440 and going for 120-144Hz), especially if the cash can go to better parts inside the case.

As for 1500X Vs. 1600 when it comes to Ryzen - more and more games are coming out optimised for multi-core processing where the 6-core 1600/X is the sweetspot for Frames/$. Additionally the X-chips are labeled as such since they're tested to be overclocked but don't come with a cooler (AMD's thought is "you gonna buy a X-chip? You'll toss on an aftermarket aircooler, AIO or waterblock"), so going for a non-X saves a bit of cash and the AMD Wraith coolers are beastly for being 'stock' aircoolers.

Additionally - Yes, SSD's are worth getting, even if just for a boot drive or a few core games out of your library that you regularly play and want loading quickly.

But the 1600 is only 20 bucks more than the 1500x and has 2 more cores, and you can OC it too.

If you are lucky you can easily get a 1400, push it to 1500x and use the 20 bucks somewhere else.

I have a system with a 1600 and that one runs at 1600x speeds on the stock cooler, that's what i call good value :P

You do realize that if we're playing the OC game, the same goes to the other side, right? They are both quad-cores and gain similar clocks. OP may also not want to manually overclock which the 1500X will do for him dynamically.

No... Ryzen usually derps out around 4Ghz regardless where you start.

That's just how far Ryzen goes, it's not because you start higher you will end up higher.

Of course with a 1500x you are sure you will get certain performance. If you get a 1400 and you are very unlucky with the silicon lottery you might end up lower than the 1500x, but if you are lucky however it goes up to 4.1 Ghz.

I know what you mean but in this case it doesn't work like that. It's the same architecture, physically identical (sort of).
