1700 strange gaming temps

1700 maxed at 42 degrees and gaming for many hours on many different games

crysis 3

bf4

witcher 3

overwatch

and wildlands

it never went over 42 in hwinfo64 and ryzen master

how come my 1600 would run at 60 degrees and my 1700 only 42 ?

The 1700 even runs cooler for rendering maxing at 53 degrees  where as the 1600 has been as high as 67

both at 1.33 3.9ghz

AMD (and proud) r7 1700 4ghz-

also (1600)

asus rog crosshairs vi hero x370-

MSI 980ti G6 1506mhz slix2 -

h110 pull - acer xb270hu 1440p -

 corsair 750D - corsair 16gb 2933

The R5 1600 was a defective die which had cores disabled, this means the power drawn in isolated to a smaller area. It also likely has higher resistance due to defects causing elevated temperatures.

The R7 1700 is a non-defective die and the power drawn on the CPU is spread across the entire die, making heat dissipation easier resulting in reduced temperatures.

These theories are BS, but it doesn't really matter, either way both CPU's temperatures are well within safe limits.

The thermistors used in CPUs are not accurate or calibrated, the values are really only useful for relative within-CPU comparisons at different loads, not comparing one CPU to another.

I'm curious if the 8 core series are soldered where as the other series are thermal paste.

I don't know the answer as i have only seen the first gen ryzen chips delided

Apparently there all soldered dude, ain't no way you could run 1.45v through at intell chip at max oc and it only hit high 60's
