I have both a 7970(what the 280x was rebranded from) and a 1050ti. in day to day gaming you cant tell the difference between the 2 but the heat and the power consumption of a 7970/280x makes the 1050ti a no brainer.

  • 4 weeks later...

I see a few of these threads around and that particular video being posted. I upgraded from Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X to a EVGA 1050ti SC in my secondary rig, 280x could not handle Tekken 7 ultra 1080p, 1050ti can. If you can afford a newer architecture then go for it.

Also the 1050ti cost me £144.90 (Amazon) and I just sold my 280x for £180. Thank you Ethereum miners!

Look around for a 7970 GHz edition. It's a 280x but it can be found for cheaper. Unless power consumption is a concern I'd get the 7970 and overclock it. Otherwise I'd get the 1050ti.

I'd go for a 1050ti 'cause of two big reasons:

1st reason: The 1050ti is not as powerhungry and better to cool than a r9 280x

2nd: The 10 series NVidia cards supply better drivers and xtra functions!
