Laptop for school and watching 4k.

Go to solution Solved by RhysMusique,

For it's price... Eh i guess it's okay.

For movie editing - definitely not suitable. You need at least a decent dedicated graphics card for that.

For watching 4K content - probably not suitable CPU/ graphics wise, and you're never gonna watch 4K on a 'Full HD' screen, no matter how hard you try.

Is this a good laptop for its price? I'm using it for school and light movie editing. And is this laptop also capable of viewing 4k videos without stuttering?

Well, the laptop you linked does not have the ability to watch 4k as it has a Full HD panel. However, as a school device it will fare just fine. If you are willing to spend more, I would highly recommend the HP Spectre x360 as it gives you the ability to watch 4k footage, has a very good battery life, comes with USB-C and includes a stylus (which again, is awesome for school).

lol you are a funny one. If OP had 1.2k i don't think he'd be looking at 350$ laptops...

excuse me but.... in what world do you live? sure it is not the fastest machine because the lack of ssd, but the 7100u is more than capable to do that. Only concern from my side would be the build quality

in terms of movie editing: as long as you are only doing basic stuff like cutting and trimming footage to one film without many effects, you get away withit, at least with software like cyberlink power director or magix. For sure you won't get the fastest render times, but it is doable. My father actually uses a very similar config and only has 4GB of ram too and he never has issues (cpu is a 7100u and full hd content)

and even 4k playback is possible (though it will scale down to fit your display resolution), as my 5200u without dgpu is capable of it.

Yea sure, i can even video edit with a laptop cheaper than this one. We're talking about what's decent here, not what's the absolute minimum and will barely run. We also have no idea what he needs to do with it for school or which program he plans on using for video editing. And as your last line already tells, it will scale down. so there's absolutely no benefit in playing 4k on this laptop.

Ya'll are missing the point in telling him he can't watch 4K on this laptop - yes, it has a 1080p panel, but it also has an HDMI out.

My AW13R3 has a 1080p panel but I hook it up to a 4K monitor when I'm at home for 4K Netflix.

@sanderlawrence For $350, it's okay.  For hobby video editing, it's probably fine.  Are we talking high school workload or college school like AutoCAD? Because for the former, yeah, sure it's fine.  For the latter it's better off staying in Amazon's warehouse.  What's your budget?
