ASRock and Aurous have X399 boards. Caution: massive socket, and that Aorous board has a massive amount of PCIe lanes

Looks like AMD and Intel are ready to compete head to head with high-performance desktop platforms at Computex.

ASRock has just showcased its X399 motherboards: Professional Gaming and Taichi. Both ship with four PCI-Express slots and eight memory DIMMs. It also does appear that both X399 Professional Gaming and X399 Taichi also have WiFi antennas and two ethernet connectors. Unlike X399 AORUS Gaming 7 the duo from ASRock has only 8-pin power connector for Ryzen Threadripper.

Look at it. LOOK AT IT AND APPRECIATE IT. (if image is ded here, here's a direct link: https://cdn.videocardz.com/1/2017/05/ASRock-X399-Motherboards.jpg)

Aorous also has stuff on X399:

AORUS Gaming 7 has three M.2 slots, ALC 1220 audio chipset, Killer E2500 network card and lots of RGB galore. The CPU is powered by 8+4 pin power connectors.

But most impressively: https://cdn.videocardz.com/1/2017/05/GIGABYTE-X399-AORUS-GAMING-7-6.jpg

Look at the right card. Last row. 64 PCIe lanes. 64 fucking PCIe lanes. Bye Bye X299 in that case.

Yup, even though they're properly linked here. That's why I've put the text links in there as well. Must be an issue on this forum, it was acting up yesterday as well.

The first one loaded now but not the others.

EDIT: Actually it's because I went to the links which cached the images.

It just looks like a big hold down plate.

The chip area itself looks about the same as X99 but taller.

Not that surprised since it's a Napes die variation, I was rather confused with those previous rumors saying TR would be 44 lanes and why AMD would reduce the number meaning more variation.

i really want one...

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Maybe on the lower SKUs to keep the cost even further down.

Probably not as salty as Intel must be though...

they must be even more pissed, because amd blocked them the b350 number too, and x370 is a big naming clash if intel calls its following chipset z370

Soo.. I guess you won't fit any CPU-cooler currently on the market on Threadripper. But I guess that was pretty expected..

Don't think they will, wouldn't save that much money. Likely going to be same tactic as Ryzen and just offer lower core counts and XFR vs non-XFR, less changes you make the cheaper it can actually be since you don't have to go back through a whole separate validation phase etc.

AMD likely doesn't think they will have high enough sales volumes for changes like that to pay off, they have been rather open about that and the same for Vega.

Frankly, this is an area where I disagree with AMD.  I think it was a shortsighted move by them, to try and capitalize on the Intel chipset naming scheme and confuse less knowledgeable customers even further.

@PCGuy_5960 did you see this Threadripper will have up to 64 PCIe v3 lanes while still being able to have 3 NVME drives.

that is including the chipset, and we are not sure if this is 64 direct to the CPU or a combo of CPU + Chipset. It is looking awesome, but sad to see x299 to not use solder as TIM.

If Intel doesn't use too much adhesive, the thermal paste will be fine. ;)
