They still are in the original original OP. The 2nd post (the other thread) is fine.

I've used the "insert image from URL" again. It looks completely fine on my screen.

So this is why they weren't worried about AMD.

If anything, this CPU proves that Intel is worried about AMD.

They had this in development far before AMDs release. This wasn't a response, this was a confirmation.

I don't get why is Intel retiring the k and copying AMD's x.... and this xe? this way here in a couple of years we'll have Intel Core i11 9875XEK 2.0

Technology companies SUCKS so fucking much at name scheming it is not even fun.

Intel's naming scheme has been a mess for a while, and it's sad to see AMD copying them with Ryzen.

In the case of the X in particular, they're not copying AMD: they were already mixing Ks and Xs in their previous Xx9 platdforms as well (like i7-6800K, but i7-6950X).

I guess they might add XE, i9, etc because people was getting too used to their current scheme and it was gradually causing less confusion :P

Intel doesn't need to wait for AMD releases to know what is coming up, though.

Besides, one thing is to design a CPU, another thing is to take an already designed (Xeon) CPU and give it a consumer platform spin.

Yet they would have never released it this soon if AMD didn't respond in the first place.

It will probably be at least 3000$. In fact, if we look at the 350$ per core difference between the current 8 and 10 core models it would have to be 4500$.

-edit-

turns out it's 2000$. AMD making an impact here

This was taking a xeon architecture they already had and binning it for higher clock speeds. Nothing new or unexpected here, but it wouldn't have existed for another 4 years if amd hadn't been there.

I'm referring to the architecture in and of itself. Which is why I said it was already ready to go and not a direct response to AMD. I knew about the new Xeons ahead of time. This is all on time with their normal releases.

Pricing however will however be determinate of AMD. If they hand AMD their butt then expect another 6950x.

These things will be ahead in clock speed and IPC (Skylake IPC and Skylake clocks, where possible). But pricing will still be Intel pricing. AMD can make a 16c/32t Threadripper for $1300 if they want to while still having some nice margins, and not a snowball's chance in hell Intel will charge around that price for their 16c32t offering.

this is when intel catch the core bug from amd and then amd go on to dominate the ipc in cpu's and intel are just known for producing high core count heaters

Intel isn't going to price themselves out of the water. If they outperform AMD then they will price accordingly. Like I said if they can hand AMD their butt then  , most likely, they will price it as another 6950x. It's all determinate of performance and features.

The X was only used there, on the highest end chip of all, i7 5960x i7 6950x and so on, now they are using X every where and felt the need for an extra letter for the highest end, in my humble opinion they did copy AMD with their x's which is bloody stupid xD

The problem is that intel will price this 18 core at the 2500-3000$ mark, or it will eat up his own xeon processor line, so amd IMHO doesn't have to worry about intel, especially considering that the 16 core monster will be more likely in the 1200$ range
