oooo. interesting. i wont ever own a X299 board, probably ever, but its still neat

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What's the point when you have a screen literally in front of your face already?

Just use something like rainmeter to see all the stats you want without having to turn your head to look at your case.

You would still have to install and configure the software for it to show what you want on the motherboard...

A external LCD will be more convenient, like what they did with their older ROG boards.

What "light thing" are you talking about?

Rainmeter was way more features than a tiny LCD on a motherboard, if that's what you meant.

Does anything usually?  With that said, I think we'll be pleasantly surprised by what a quadrupling of L2 cache, improved IPCs, AVX 512 and so on can do.

You and me both bud!  :D  The competition should help, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to see.

Fact remains, if they deliver what people want, they can charge what people are willing to pay.  HEDT is a whole different market and those folks don't necessarily always place value high on their priority list.

Lol, as much as i wish they would think of the backlash if the new gen comes in cheaper than the old with suppliers still holding X99 stock. the most they could do is a give it a high MSPR but have it sell on "Launch Special" Prices and keep that going for as long as they could.

Its funny, last year I would have gotten damn excited with this but with seeing what a G4560 with a 1060 is capable of FPS wise and with the Amazing Prices of Ryzen I'm finding myself less drawn to caring about this Elite tier CPU's, well that and trying to learn the new numbers for models.

I'm more excited for Ryzen 3 to hit.

Redstone:
i7-4770 / Z97 / GTX 980 / Corsair 16GB  / H90 / 400C / Antec EDGE / Neutron GTX240 / Intel 240Gb / WD 2TB / BenQ XL24

Obsidian:

MSI GE60 2PE i7-4700HQ / 860M / 12GB / WE 1TB / m.Sata 256gb/Elagto USB HD Capture Card

Razer Deathadder Chroma / Razer Blackwidow TE Chroma / Kingston Cloud2's / Sennheiser 429 / Logitech Z333

never even mind the R7 range for me a 1400 (4c/8t) for i5 price and 1600 for i7 prices. those are such sweet points. MY next Gaming PC will def's be AMD combo that with the value on the GPU's and hell a 1400+470/80 system and I'm happy at half the price :)

x299 is HEDT.  Ryzen (mainstream) doesn't appeal to the HEDT folks as much as you think.  PCIe lanes, overclocking headroom and the like are what those guys want.  Threadripper will address some of this.

to be honest, over 2 gpu is a waste of money, ryzen can be fully decked out with 2 gpu+ PCIE networking card + PCIE SSD without any issues, 40 lanes are good to have but useless for most average consumers.

I get the HEDT stuff but than why if you look at those Motherboards they are Clearly aimed at the Gaming/Enthusiast market. I'm cool for a new Xeon range and all that but that are i7X's they marketed and such at been elite gaming and all that, which been HEDT and having the price that comes along with it is like selling someone a bus when they wanted a station wagon.

just doesn't make sense you know. But as always those in need of an ePenis enlargment will be upgrading from X99 10c/20t i7's to this.

Completely agree @nerdslayer1 Lets be honest in todays world how many people are touching add in cards besides graphics, the most I've done is a wireless card and a RAID controller in Workshop PC. the hell would need 40 lanes outside of Corporate and again thats fine but they trying to market this stuff to us

Guys who buy HEDT aren't usually always gaming with their PCs.  Multi GPU (3 or more) support is very valuable to folks who need that horsepower for other things.  Once again, I think you're discussing mainstream points of view in a thread about HEDT.

Yeah, he was just explaining how the 40 lanes of x99 / x299 may not be necessary to some folks.
