The "New" Surface Pro

Microsoft Just announced the newest member of their Surface pro line up, and it seems that they are taking notes from Razer's Naming scheme, calling the new device; "The New Surface Pro"

with a completely redesigned hinge mechanism, and updated stylus/pen, surface dial support and a new, more colour accurate display. Microsoft seems to making minor adjustments to their already well know Surface pro 4. The Hinge now allows the device to be folded into "studio mode" similar to that of the Surface Studio. The new and updated stylus now has 4096 levels of pressure as well as tilt sensitivity.

Microsoft has also upgraded the internals of the device with 7th gen Kaby lake CPUs, an advertised 13.5 hours of battery life, LTE advanced , advanced speakers and an improved chassis and cooling solution, making the device the thinnest and quietest device yet.

Will it support 700, 1800, and 2100 MHz LTE? Is it compatible with the majority of LTE bands around the world?

Kinda like how Apple named it's third generation iPad in 2012 "the new iPad'. It's not a Surface Pro 5 nor a 4 1/2.

Based on what? 13.5 hours of local video playback or 13.5 hours of Netflix playback?

Also, it still doesn't have a Thunderbolt 3 via type C USB port:(

I hope that the next gen surface book will have a quad core processor. Otherwise I think they are losing out on a big audience of people.

If they want to keep it in the form factor it's in right now and battery life it has quad core is unreasonable IMO. I'd also want a quad core but I think that for the weight and size that's just not gonna happen :/

That's a good point. But I would take a little bit extra weight and less battery life for the quad core processor. Like they did when they upgraded the gpu.

A performance option would be a good idea though. Kinda like the performance base thing. I could see that working out.

How long it last on prime95?

Not long. After 15 minutes on the old SP4 the CPU would drop down to 0.8Ghz.

The pen, mouse, and keyboard are still sold separately. Ugh.

I'm mainly upset about the keyboard though because they advertise it as a "tablet that can replace your laptop", and it can't really do that without a keyboard.

Yeah my SP3 can get quite hot and throttle if it gets too tasked. However I use it as an artist sketchpad, web browsing in bed, and Photoshop on the go when I am doing a photoshoot or as a dailies review screen when shooting video on set. Ive grown quite fond of it.

So 799 base but no keyboard and no pen included, so really add 250 bucks to the bottom line to get something functional for students or artists or even someone doing photoshop on the go - what a joke

I thought Apple was bad with accessory pricing and not including things, but this is special. They market it like a laptop. They tell you its for professional use. Don't include things you'd need. What a joke.

Very nice! Also the new covers are the new keyboard colors they are going with are the same as the Surface Laptop.

The pen is a nice upgrade. Samsung has just recently released a Galaxy Book 12. This is a serious competitor. It has a pen that is really impressive compared to the Pro 4 pen, same form factor, 3:2 aspect ratio, and everything, and the price is about the same for similar specs. It does have a lower screen resolution a bit, but powered by color calibrated OLED panel, It does have USB Type-C, 2 of them! But, ONLY USB Type-C (what's with manufcatures doing All in or nothing? Is it that hard to have 1x USB Type-C and 1x USB Type A?), No mag-safe style power connector sadly. Keyboard is good, but not as good as the Surface Pro 4 keyboard, trackpad are comparable. LTE option exist. It uses Wacom pen technology. As for the kickstand... well, this is the big downer. they use a keyboard cover with an origami type of cover thing. Very annoying, and not very solid.

Can't wait to see how thi new updated pen fairs.

Yea yea, same thing on every Surface Pro release. Nothing changed, beside the base model price dropping.

Well, having LTE will make them not possible to use under a test at schools....

Microsoft could've edged out Apple on that one. Apple offers their cheapest laptop the 13" MacBook Air at the same price with 8GB of system memory. Not to mention their refusal to include Thunderbolt 3.

Seeing how memory is stupid fucking expensive right now for no reason I can still see why base models are 4gb and a small SSD. But without total material cost I dont know how much that would affect the price
