My parents pay for internet. For some reason we should be able to get FTTH (Avg.506Mb/s down Avg.75Mb/s up) but thats supposedly innacurate and I suspect TalkTalk (Britains budget ISP) don't have a FTTH contract with Openreach (Private company owned by BT that manages broadband infrastructure) But at least i get unlimited data! I generally download ISOs and VST plugins etc. etc.

Eir FTTH 1gb Down 100mb Up with Eir's multiroom TV service via two free Apple TV's = 97.94 a month. Ireland's "cheap" price for you. Still excellent speeds and latency but got my own XR500 to feed off the crappy ISP router. Considering I was on a 4g home connection barely a year a go with 8mb download and barely a 1 up (I wont dare think about the number of 2000ms ping spikes that came with that 4g service) - I am delighted regardless of price of FTTH

$50+tx for 1G/1G in Toronto. Finally moved to a Beanfield condo after getting gouged with Bell/Rogers for years in the suburbs. Used to pay more for just 30/5 Mbps

Comcast just raised prices again in our area $3. However back in like October they raised our speeds to 300/10 from 200/10. I have to buy a new modem to benefit from the increase. Ill do that after I get my bonus for the year.

Leave it to Comcast to upgrade your connection but not tell you. We have been on 200/10 for a few years now. Recently I decided to check our data usage. My dad retires at the end of December. I wanted to see the usage before he retires and I’ll check it after he retires. I have the feeling that the 1.2TBs of data we have monthly might not be enough. While checking it I see we have been updated to 300/10. I wondered why I was seeing speed tests for 280 Mbps. The problem is we will need to buy a new modem.  Looking at picking up an SB8200 as we will never upgrade to the Gigabit service which is 1200 Mbps. But that modem will likely cover any upgrades they do. Also found our internet is going up $3/m. Not sure about TV because we dropped cable, but my aunt wants to cut the cord, so I’m guessing enough.

Still on Telus Fibre 940/940 years later. $65/month through June 2022. We'll see what I go to after discounts end.

Got a new Huawei AX3 Pro (sold as AX3 in Canada, but it's the Pro internationally). With my S21 Ultra and my laptop with Intel AX201, I'm able to get full 940/940 in the same room as the router, and at least 400/600 throughout the house.

Just upgraded.

Running pfSense on a Dell R320 with a Chelsio S320 chip to handle all network operations without touching the CPU, only thing the CPU handles are packets flagged by the firewall ruleset. Connected up to an Extreme Networks X670 48 Port SFP+ switch. Zoom Zoom.

Just upgraded my AT&T plan. Upload is a bit off right now but I need to make some tweaks later today or tomorrow to fix it.

Yeah I saw they are testing and deploying 2.5 and 5 Gbps in select areas.

Yup, they rolled it out like 3 days ago so I jumped on the 5Gbps upgrade 😛

My 10G NIC on my computer is giving me issues for some reason, 2.5Gb onboard NIC works fine (2.5G up/down) but the 10G one starts at like 3Gbps and just drops off to about 1Gbps at the end so I'll need to check on that.

Turns out, because the AT&T BGW320 has a 5GbE port which I ran to my firewall with a 10GbE port and an SFP+ that claimed to be able to do 5Gb and 2.5Gb that's what was causing issues. It wasn't a NIC issue at all, took me a while to figure it out but basically I ran the AT&T box into my switch which has proper 2.5GbE and 5GbE copper ports and then ran from there to the firewall (using just an access VLAN with no SVI on the switch) and it works great now. Getting around 4.5Gb down and 3 to 4Gb up 😄

Edit - Summary of issues and final fix/update 12/30/21:

Bad 10GbE transceiver in firewall - swapped things around so it ran through the switch (ONT >> Switch >> Firewall) and seemed to help downloads a bit.

Forgot I had QoS marking applied to all ports which caused the system to try and queue stuff still going out. Removed that fixed upload issues completely.

100Mb/s(Fiber) for $10. And this is with with two more people on the network with light usage at the moment. Seems pretty good to me for the price.

I am getting pretty fucking sick and tired of the "watch something else" responses. It's such a cop out answer because you could say that about basically anything, and it doesn't address the actual complaints. People use it as some kind of card they pull when they can't actually respond to the criticism raised but they still feel like they need to defend some company/person. If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". It's not a clever responsive, it doesn't address anything said, and it is rude.

this thread makes me sad.  is there a site or what is a way to find neighborhoods, cities and/or zip codes with fiber to the home service?  I've talked to ISP and they ask me to provide addresses... but I want to be able search for real estate knowing that service is available in a neighborhood or not.

I'm based in the UK and sometimes when watching LTT and other tech videos feel a bit shortchanged when they talk about their super fast internet connections.

Up until 2 weeks ago I only had 50-60mbps for a few years. Fibre was available in my locality but not on my street. Its became available not long ago so now have a 500meg connection which is pretty sweet. Makes a huge difference when downloading. I think 1gig may be ailvable soon but not quite yet.

Just wondering really where you are located and what speeds you got, along with cost if you don't mind disclosing. Just curious really with the cost of everything becoming sky high due to the pandemic and so forth.

I'm in North West England, UK. Can get 500-520meg download. Not checked the upload yet but think its about 50. Not at the property right now to check.

Think 50 is about the UK average so I'm well above that. Costs me about £40 (55 USD a month)
