How fast is the LTT member's internet connection?

How fast is it?

  1. 1. To which continent are you from?

  2. 2. How is your internet connection delivered to your home?

    • DSL
    • Cable
    • Fiber to the (x) or FTT(x)
    • Mobile broadband (HSPA+, LTE, WiMax, EDGE, EV-DO, CDMA, etc)
    • Satellite Internet
    • Dial-up
    • Power line internet/broadband over powerline
    • Some other method (specify in the comments)
    • government subsidized municipal/town wifi
  3. 3. How much do you pay for your home internet (in US dollars)

  4. 4. How fast is your connection (download speed in megabits per second)?

  5. 5. Do you at least get ≥80% service reliability from your current ISP?

  6. 6. Is your current home internet limited by a data cap?

    • It's unlimited data baby!
    • Yup, my internet is unfortunately capped
  7. 7. Will you stay with your current ISP?

    • Yes at the moment until someone offers something better
    • Yes, I'm a loyal customer
    • Yes because I have no choice
    • No, I'm switching soon
    • No, I'm switching later (specify why in the comments)

Finally got gigabit speeds at home! The plan is 950/300, but I think Telus provisioned my upload speeds incorrectly [my old plan (300/300) had faster uploads]. The downloads are now fast enough that I'm able to notice congestion between my ISP and other ISPs here in Vancouver [if traffic goes via transit instead of peering (either at an IXP or privately)].

I'm paying basically 50% more for internet though. CA$237 per month for this internet connection alone. However, it is a (smb) business connection with "static" IPs.

My biggest frustration (aside from the botched upload speeds and transit congestion) is the lack of IPv6 support even though customers with dynamic IPs are getting IPv6 via DHCPv6-PD.

Ran my network speed test using two different programs, similar'ish results I guess....

And this was with ookla...

Why the heck is my upload speed faster? Should it be the other way around? ?

The result below was done on my other rig, via wireless dongle....not too bad, good enough for watching Netflix, without any latency.

This is more the kind of result I'd expected, where the DL speed is faster than the UL speed.....

Definitely not complaining, but that upload speed is a little silly to pair with a 1G down connection, don't you think?

Down here in Australia, we are only just getting speeds that other countries would have had years ago. Gigabit will be another decade.

I hate my ISP but I have no other choice. I could tolerate it more if I had unlimited but I only get 500gbs a month

500 GB per month is basically unlimited if your internet speeds are around 1.5mbps up/down.

1.5mbps ~ 0.19 MB/s

0.19MB/s * 3600 secs (in an hour) * 720 hours (in a month) = 492480 MB

~ 492 GB per month (unidirectional)

If you saturate your internet connection both ways at greater than 55% for the entire month, then yes, you could exceed your cap. But with a connection that slow it doesn't seem like a good idea to do that, even with QoS.

It's ok for our usecase right now but we're actually getting Fiber in about a year or so and that will mean 1000 Mbps up and down symmetric !

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

I've got Virgin Media's Fibre 100 package, which is supposed to offer 100Mbps

My PC is now upstairs, which makes the speed suffer.

When I was near the router I used to get ~110Mbps but now I get 81Mbps (it's noticeable!)

PC speed:

$70 a month? That's the sort of speed I got on my previous mobile network and it used to cost somewhere around £15 (26 CAD).
