I am in SoCal, and my internet has 15-30Mbps download and 1-8mbps upload and is really slow. I have the basic router from my provider (cox). I will be getting a Linksys - WRT AC3200 Dual-Band WiFi 5 Router. Will this boost my speed? My area has not gotten fiber yet, so I am hoping this will help my internet speed.

This is on Airtel FTTH India. I pay around Rs 870 or 12.27 $ for 200 down/up. Not bad, I'd say and the connection has been pretty okay too. Only one downtime in over 9 months, that too because some rash driver decided to mow down the main fiber box in my locality ?

Realized I haven't posted an update in a while. I currently have two ISPs for a couple reasons. The main being my primary ISP is fully paid for by work and it's fiber, so latency is crazy low. The secondary ISP I have because it's the cheapest TV option around for the channels I want/need and because PSVue is dead, YouTube TV doesn't fit the bill, and AT&T's DirecTV NOW prices kept shooting up and AT&T TV via uVerse kept having blackouts and fights with everyone. I went with TV + Internet from them because it was cheaper to do that than just do TV and pay for 3 receivers. I just use Policy Based Routing (PBR) to route my TVs out the secondary connection to authenticate on their network and get the TV that way :D

Spoiler

Primary ISP: AT&T Fiber

Average Speed:

950Mbps Down

920Mbps Up

Secondary ISP: TWC

Average Speed:

375Mbps Down

20Mbps Up

Campus internet is the bomb, this is at about 8PM at night, so peak Netflix time for students. The most I've ever seen is 975Mbps Down and 980Mbps Up at about 6am in the morning.

Allegedly the HPC lab can get a 9.5Gbps symmetric connection all the time

I like to compare what people pay for their home internet and how much up and down speed they get and what's their internet  data cap if they have one.

This is what my internet provider offers.

250Mbps up and 250Mbps Down for $57.50 A month

1Gig Up and 1Gig Down  for $77.50 A month

10Gig Up and 10Gig Down for $117.50 A month

no data cap no throttling direct fiber optic to my house

my internet provider is cfu

i pay 42$ a month for 50 down and 10 up.

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

we pay 50 euro orso for atleast 100Mbps both ways, a landline and tv.

we could switch provider and get gigabit for 40 euro which doesnt come with anything else. this option however requires us paying 15 euro/month to our current provider for the use of the fiber network.

but then again we really coulnt be bothered switching as the current provider doesn't collect data, doesn't cap you and doesn't block any sites. they got better things to do like installing fiber in a rural area.

as for data caps, a provider would be stupid to do such a thing here in the netherlands. There are so many other providers at similar ish prices so they would lose customers quite quickly. Especially in an age where unlimited mobile data is like 25 euro/ month

$103

200 down 10 up

1TB cap

Should mention the price does include the Xfinity stream service, we only keep it because it gives us HBO and buying HBO now would cost about the same if we did internet only.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Merged with the existing thread discussing member's internet speed and plan prices. There's also a poll that you can participate in which already has over 2000 responses.

Apparently Speedtest.net now actually saves the result on speedtests that go beyond several gbps in speed. And I've found a speedtest server that can handle more than 10Gbps (AT&T in Seattle). All the other servers in the region are capped right below 10Gbps at best. So here's a result with a download speed of 17.8Gbps and 4.8Gbps for upload.
